I will be setting up my new 15g tank.

Is it really a must to have a tank mat placed in between the tank and the stand?

    Thanks for your advice.

It is best that you use it if you can spare the extra cash. I use it because:

    1) Make certain your tank is level and cushioned. This is useful to prevent potential pressure points.
    2) Anti slip which is useful just in case you accidentally knock against your tank.
    3) Looks much better than using Styrofoam for the similar job.

You should be able to get one around the price range of $10-$20 + or cheaper if you DIY from other sources. I got mine from Mizu world.

    Tank mat

Buy a yoga mat and cut. Imagine 1 pressure point from a sand. Enough to crack a 15g tank's base.

If it is a five plan or gex tank with black bace. You don't need worry about pressure points only about slipping.
