A newbie question on Algae

Just to share my experience, I had two outdoor tanks back in sri Lanka, a bare one with oscars and small one which was packed with this plant called hydrilla. I placed the bare tank in a way sunlight directly hits it, and in a month or so it turned so green I couldn't see the fish, had to empty the whole tank and reposition it and was ok.
The second one was fully exposed to sunlight but yet had only a few dots of green on the glass, I maintained this for about a year or so. The tank was extremely basic, i set this up after I bought guppies as feeders for my oscars, felt sorry for the guppies and grew them in this tank, it had no aeration, gravel or anything, just hydrilla and guppies. Even the water was not changed for months.
Even the little nutrition the water used to get in the form of fish food was completely absorbed by the plants not allowing any algea to grow. Although the set up was a bit extreme and is not something desirable (it was just a muddle of a water weed) the point is if you get the right balance algae shouldn't be an issue.

This is your problem, once you change your light intensity, your CO2 and fert dosing must change accordingly

This is the correct thing to do.
More light but not enough nutrient = algae
less light too much nutrient = algae

Shrimps, otto, SAE, etc will clear Algae if they grow on plants, substrates, rocks, or glass of the tanks. But what i am experiencing is water turning green, meaning there is an Algae bloom and these Algae are floating in the water itself. I have 4 ottos in my tank but they are of no help since the algae are not attached to anything. The symptom is similiar to what is describe here =>

What I am doing now is to put back my old lighting, do a major WC and stop feeding the fishes for 2 days. c how it goes.

Just to update. My water is now clear again after WC and putting back the old light. In the meantime, I have also bought some additional aquatic plants and filled 1/2 of my 2 ft tank with used soil given by a friend. So far so good, no fauna death. I am using the new light again. see how it goes. Hopefully, the new plants will be able to absorb the additional nutrients and prevent green water from coming back.

Am doing trial and error, learning from experience. This is my first tank and is in the process of slowly converting it from a bare tank to aquascaping tank as mentioned in a separate thread..
