Hi... Anyone can advise if this wood chips are suitable for them?

I'll cover with some moss on the top layer and some clay pallets at the bottom to drain the water.
But i'm just wondering if this is harmful to the froggies?

Not quite sure what type of wood chips they are. Pretty light weight, bought it at Y934...

    Hi AhVy ah!

Why not? To make sure there isn't any toxin or tannin leach into water. Just boil the wood-chips for a couple of times (10 minutes each time) .Then your Kermit will start singing "When green is all there is to be, it can make you wonder why, but why wonder. I'm green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.!"

yes it is safe for the frogs. but live crickets will tends to hide among these wood chips making it hard for the frogs to find them.

I do agree with dzylim, since you got it. There is one method to keep the crickets not hide, try to keep it moist all the time and critters hate to hide in the wet area!!!

I disagree. Impaction is always an issue; my whites have come close to ingesting even the paper towels when I used to feed them in the quarantine set up.

I must say, delhezi right about this if the wood chip is too small, they could accidentally swallow wood chips instead of cricket and then will die of indigestion. Why not you pick and choose bigger wood chips from package.

Yes using any type of chip for White's is always risky... they are ferocious eaters and they will pounce on anything that moves... so impaction risk can run high when you are using any type of chip for White's... can either change the substrate to peat moss or organic compost or leave half of the chip in there then cover the top with peat moss/organic compost and then cover another layer of Tropical moss...

Use feeding tong/tweezer and you will almost completely avoid impaction.

True but there are times accidents will happen and I have witness my frogs munching on green moss or soil when the mealworms drop on to the "ground" covering... so better to be safe then sorry

Hi Desmond, I'm using Exo Terra's coco husk at the moment. Any risk of impaction should 'accidents' happen when crickets are dropped on the ground and my whites feed off there?

Re: White's Tree Frog - substrate

Currently, my 4ft high terrarium is not using any substrate like coco peat, wood chip, pine chips and peat moss or whatever. Hence, I'm using fake fine carpet grass ( buy from Far East Flora) to resolve from any impaction occur.

Well I wouldn't say it's safe but best to cover with a layer of peat moss/soil/moss to be on the safe side...

Eddy's method of using fake turf grass can work too as I did use those before and the fake turf grass do not lossen so easily and can withstand the White's pulling and grabbing... it's also easier to wash too as you just need to rinse the fake turf grass with water...

The benefit of using fine cocofiber is that if accidently ingested, it can typically be digested. However, don't be fooled by thicker fibres which can present a problem. Look for something along the consistency of "eco-earth". (Google)

Re: White's Tree Frog - substrate

I guess Terra plantation soil will ideal as it's superfine from grinded coco husk. Readily available from Pet Mart and hence I will use this for my next terrarium clean-up.
