Glass thickness

Hi guys,

Just placed an order for a 4x1.5x1.5 tank.. Can't wait to set up my planted tank

Quick question though, the glass thickness is 6mm, except for the bottom panel which would be 10mm. I did some searching and this seems an acceptable thickness for this dimension.
However I would like to know if anyone here has a tank with similar thickness for the volume of the tank, and if it's not too late do you recommend I ask for 10mm?

Yes, acceptable if it comes with all round euro-bracing and center bracing as well.
Of course, 10mm is defintely on the safer side.
For my 4ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft, is 8mm thickness with 10mm as the base with euro-bracing. Feel safer when not at home.

Actually it depends on what you wanted to keep. Heard that actually thicker have abilities to keep the temperature constant. I'm using a 2 x 1 x 1.5 of 8mm thickness and have a 422 12mm thickness. Both are having temperature of 28 - 28.5 and 27 - 27.5 respectively without chiller or fans. So if also having the budget I would go for the thicker the better.

Hey Stormz, would you mind sharing the lighting specs of your 422 tank? Is there a rule of thumb out there somewhere with light wattage and requirement for chillers?

I'm not able to advise as the 422 is used to keep normal fishes, not planted. If planted I would advice maybe can try putting T5 HO maybe about 6500-6700K, but I was using the standard T5 Tubes that came with the lights, it was 120000K Daylight.

Different people different style so I can only say what apply to me might not be applicable to you.
