    my thinking would be that the activated carbon would actually absorb the toxic metals, including the good minerals etc. then after a few weeks you could take out the activated cardon and do away with it. then maybe you could(optional) remineralrize your tank water with whatever additives found on the lfs shelf. make sure it's shrimp safe such as mineral rocks or mosura mineral plus etc
