Hi all,

I'm an extreme newbie on fish and really required your helpful advise.

Recently i manage to pick up 3 of these fish and 2 died before i manage to buy a proper tank and 'chemicals'. -Can anyone tell me what breed is this?

I bought the following and manage to save the last fish but its suffering from tail rot? some part of the skin totally came off and it looked so painful.. have also purchase the skin rot medicine , is there any other thing i can do?

I am currently using a tank divider to separate my goldfish from it as i thought it would be a great company but the goldfish ended up biting the wound. Please help ><" Im so lost!!

How old is your setup? The tail looks really bad - almost liked it's ripped off. Did the fish trash about in the tank? More details would be helpful. Looks like from the african butter catfish family.

I picked up the fish on Wednesday 10/10 (Apparently some one bought it and forgot to bring it home, a cleaner wanted to throw them away so i adopted it)
Went to buy a tank on the very next day (morning). As its our very first fish we change away all the original water T.T!! All of them turned upside down dying when i noticed them in the evening ><!
So i went to buy the filter, BacterLife and Aquasafe. - 2 fish died on friday (flash peeling, a little mouldy). At the same time this little one was banging around the fish tank suffering, turning and tossing, but manage to swim normally on Sat? But tail began to rot T.T!!!

I only bought the GeneralTonic for it today ><!!! at the same time my dad bought some gold fish to accompany it but it looks like they are 'kissing/biting that wounded part' what should i do? ><

It's hard enough for an average hobbyist to keep even healthy fish alive and well, so chances of a sick fish recovering is rather slim.

Rather than let the fish continue suffering, it is better to put it down. Using ice cubes filled in a plastic cup of fridge-cold water is a quick and cheap way to do it.

That's a painful sight.

Its like seeing a man walking in the street with an open wound.

If I were you, I will cull it, to end its pain, given that it's tail is almost dropping off.

You have done them a great deal by adopting it. It's really kind of you.
It's also very kind of you trying to cure it. I will try the curing too, but if i see it doesn't seem to help, I will cull it.

One of the culling ways that I learnt from the bros here is to use the chillingmethod.
You can put this fish in a small container, then get a pail of ice, put this container into this pail of ice, let the coldness end its life in a less painful way.

But it looks like my fish is trying very hard to survive, it was about to die and after treatment it swim properly. Why let a life slip away when deres still chance =/

I feel bad looking at it suffering too but i just cant kill it. thats so cruel

Hi sis,

They might have been already in bad shape when you got them or sustained the bad injury while in the bag.
It seems not like it will survive more then another 2 days.

The body and the tail almost separated, The poor chap is suffering.
If it tries to swim more then more likely tail segment will break off, which spells the end...

You can only pray the fella does not over it it.

The fish must have been going the new tank syndrome considering that the tank was newly setup. you can continue to monitor the fish at this point but be prepared for the worse. As suggested by other bros, you can put it down with the help of icecubes.

Hello evil bros

Would like to share that my fish tail dropped off abt 2 days after my first posting, leaving a pathetic bone causing it a little difficult to swim..

and know what!!?

I thanked myself for not using all your cold-hearted >< ice cubes method!!

My fish survived, never eat the fish food till today (probably eating the plant). And the tail is like slowly growing back!!

Miracles do happen, so if your fish is suffering from fin rot just take good care of it and give proper medication ^^

Here's how my current African butter catfish look like now. Earlier the tail is super raw >< like how the fish dish look like after u eaten them.. As time pass the flesh seems to start grow back from the body ^^ hope it will grow back a tail fully ^^!

But.. One weird thing.. When the fish is sleeping/ resting it will go vertical. Initially I tot it is dying

but apparently when it 'wake up' it can swim 85% perfectly?

or cat fish suppose to behave this way? Please advise
