WOW! You're getting closer and closer.
Or did you use a 180mm F3.5 macro?
Cheers,

first, find me a enclosure with a king cobra and a clear glass separately both of us :P
Nice shots. looks professional to me.
Are you a photographer by profession?
I'm back!
I like the first pic, although a bit more DOF would have been better. What's the setting used?

no, I'm not a professional
choy: the setting for the 1st shot is 1/200s, Tv mode, F11, ISO 200

I would suggest for close-up to try Av for maximising DOF. Your baby can do F/22 right? No flash?

how can it be too dark when you have a flash?

I'm using a omni bounce, if using f22 and increase the flash output, then the pics will be underexposed. But if I direct the flash toward the subject then will have hotspots or overexposure which PS cant omit
huh? In Av/Tv mode ETTL should take care of that ler.

coz I'm using M mode in the flash to achieve a constant 1/200s :P

Not sure how you actually do it. Actually, I use flash with small aperture, say F16, at times F22 quite often. Most of the shots turn up great with exposure. In macro shots, the DOF and planer angle is quite critical to get an acceptable quality, especially portraiture of insects. Only at times when I need to selectively blur up some parts, then I use a bigger aperture. But whether I use small or big aperture, the shots will still turn up correctly exposed.

I thought you said you used Tv? anyway just use ETTL lah, mostly get very good results.

the manual mode is on the flash, not the camera.. anyway, i try shooting using ETTL and compare
like that ar… what flash was it anyway?

What you need to try out is this:
Switch your camera to manual mode.
Make your shutter to highest sync flash speed that your camera allowed, eg. 1/250.
Stop down your aperature to the smallest, or preferably one stop wider then this. eg. F32 is smallest, so stop down to F16.
Switch your flash mode to TTL mode.
If your TTL camera sensor is calibrated, it will give you the right exposure, regardless of what aperture you use. Play around with this, your shot will have a richer tone and greater depth, and how you set your flash(es) will become more critical.
After you understand this principle enough, you'll find you'll have many other combinations to play around to give you different choice of effects you like for a shot.
