Hey guys, initially I wanted to get a bunch fire red but, in afraid I am not equip with the right hand to care for them so in thinking of buying some medium grade or cheap shrimps first

Any idea where can get them?
Since AQ don't allow sales of shrimps, where can I get them?
I saw some from my LSF but very limited !
Know any other sites like AQ that allow sales of shrimps?

    Thanks you very much

    Hi,

You can try adpost. Search for the word shrimps.

    There should be some returns.

    They were posted end Aug.

C328 sells 5 sakura for $8, quite standard price. Cherry is much cheaper (can't remember the price though). Right hand side of the shop entrance, all the way to the rear. Look out for pests in the bag, nymphs are common free 'gifts'.

    @babychanna.

See you stay in jurong. Nearest LFS you can visit is C328/Polyart. (Block 328 hence the nickname) Alight from clementi MRT then exit on the right side (towards the hdb blocks, not the shopping center). Not really that far, about 10 minutes walk inside and you should see the LFS.

here's a screenshot of the area. Hope it helps!

    Re: low grade shrimps

By the way, C328 is closed on Sunday. I usually go on weekday nights and there are many choices available. I judge whether the stock are new or not by looking at the condition of the bags and water inside (it is not foolproof, but I can't think of a better way to tell).

Polyart is open 24-hour but prices of its shrimps are at a premium.

If you are willing to travel to the North area,
You can try Y618 (That Auarium),
Alight at Khatib MRT and it's a short distance walk,
Then spend a brisk walk from Y618 to Y934 (Aquastar),
Then walk to NorthPoint to cool yourself down before taking the train home from Yishun station.

Y618 usually have low grade shrimps still packed in the plastic bags, it's in a big Styrofoam box lying on the floor.
Y934 is selling shrimps also, which I just went recently, but not sure of the breed they have.

You can get their exact address from the LFS directory here:
    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...Shop-Directory
    from 14L to 8L tank.

I was like you finding places to buy shrimps a few months ago.
Here are the places I went to see/buy and my personal view on these places. To me there was no perfect place only your personal preference.

Clementi auntie's shop: You will be choosing from the shrimps in pre-packed packets.
Pros: Cheap and normally still have lots of packets to choose from. You can choose packets with berried females in them at no extra cost, lots of shrimp variety.
Cons: You do not know how long those packets are there. Usually the shrimps look stress from customer rough handling of taking and looking and throwing back into the tank.

Clementi polyart: You will be choosing the shrimps from small tanks with filter.
Pros: The shrimps look more relax as they are in a proper tank.
Cons: Expensive compared to auntie's shop. You can't choose based on preference (male/female) since only the uncle can catch for you. If you are not choosy as long it is alive you are fine here.

Aquastar Y934: Same as polyart you choose from small tanks. I cannot give comments since I have never buy from them. But I dun really like the condition of the tanks the house the shrimps in.

Crs haven: This shop uses the biggest tank(among the shop listed) to house their shrimps.
Pros:Good condition of tank and shrimps, able to request for shrimps of mix sex, free good quality frogbits for the shrimps, lots of shrimp variety.
Cons: Same as polyart cannot self catch shrimp but there are exceptional cases, also same as polyart you pay premium for better condition shrimps.

    Seaview aqarium: Big fish farm
Pros:You will think you are in aqarium heaven with so many things to see and potentially buy.
Cons: Shrimps are in pre-packed packets, not much shrimp variety

    low grade shrimps

Clementi florist and aquariums shrimp aren't too bad if you ask me. Been getting my rcs from there. Cheap and relatively healthy I think. ~30 a pack of shrimp. But I agree with above, polyarts look better, but come at a premium.

    Re: low grade shrimps

Of course It is entirely up to you how much you want to spend on your first purchase but unless you are very lucky, as a beginner you may find yourself going down to lfs to 'replace' shrimps pretty often in the first few months. You may want to take that into account.

Buying shrimps that are alive is one thing, keeping them alive is another. Sometimes I suspect they would have lived longer in the plastic bag than in my hands .

    Good luck.

    Re: low grade shrimps

    Hi all,

A stupid question here... If we are talking about low grade shrimps for beginners, can we just buy those $2 a pack type, where there can be as much as 30-40 shrimps and they are used as feeders ?

Since the main aim is to learn how to rear shrimps. the damage will not be great even if all the shrimps die during the learning process. We can then slowing upgrade to 'better' shrimps when we are more confident.

Or are these feeder shrimps are different from CRS, etc such that the care is different ? A novice question, really.

    Re: low grade shrimps

I think why not start with cherry shrimp .. Not very expensive and at least it looks nicer than the ghost shrimp ... haha .. there is a reason why it is called ghost shrimp .. To colourless to admire at .. go to C328 to get a huge pack of cherry shrimp ... Go to the want section to ask for cherry shrimp .. I am sure many good brothers may even give you free ..

    low grade shrimps

    Get cherry or Malayan.

You can also Learn selective breeding from cherries.

Ghost shrimp are more won't have much colour as chansl mention.
Some of the bros I know who have them keep them simply to be cleaners.
