cube tank suggestions

Hi all,

Just gathering information

How do you propose I set up a 1x1x1 cube tank.
What are the necessary steps and things to look out for
and can i do it all at once (add plants, fish, co2 etc etc)
I already have a 3 ft so know a bit about planted tanks already.

yes, I used the Eheim Liberty 100 (smallest available but still strong current flow) hanging filter to save space, but note it has an active carbon filter pad. I did put fishes in together with soil and plant (Aquasoil and crypts) but I also dosed bacteria spores to get it going, plus my fishes are the very small type, about 20 Sundadanio axelrodi.

Since already have a 3ft tank, allow the new filter to run in there fpr awhile. This will help in your bacteria colonization. If this is done, setting up of your cube should be quicker. Do allow you new tank to settle abit b4 putting your livestock into the tank.

I also thinking of one. Wondering on the CO2 part. Will be using DIY, but a reactor too big.

Nature got very nice 1ft cube, quality glass and well made, good price. Comes with styrofoam base.

How about feeding your CO2 into a small submersible filter, those small Eden filters. Filter and CO2 reactor all in one. Some DIY needed though.

And if yes, what filter is good for small tank?

For my 1-ft tank, I go filterless and non-CO2. I use plants like C. wendtii, Java Fern, Hermianthus callitrichoides, christmas moss and E. tennelus.

The tank is doing great.

Yes Yes Yes!!

You can have a totally filterless mini tank if you plant heavily and stock lightly. The boraras maculatus mini in that mini tank of mine have been doing fine for over a year, and additional inhabitants (apart from countless shrimp) are an oto, 3 kuhlii loaches and a liquorice gourami. I just change about 1/3 of the water every fortnight, but sometimes leave the tank alone for almost a month without problems.

I once setup a 1" X 1/2" X 1/2" tank with no filteration and aeration and it did well .

It was an experimental terrarium flooded with water, FYI the base are :
Bottom most - pebble
Middle - crashed charcoal
Top - Gardening Soil
1/3 water are replaced with main tank water weekly
Some plants and a dry Bonsai Branch
Fish : 1 X Beta, 1 X Chinese Algae eater, 2 X Croaking Grourami

When I first "setup" the water is left to sit for about 1 week, floating stuff removed and change about 1/3 water before putting in the beta ... the rest of the fishes came later. The tank is placed near the window for some sunlight.

One more suggestion to try.
