As for the biomedia, if you're not happy with the ones that comes with the filter, you can get the Seachem Matrix (value for money for the very large amount of surface area it has).
Had decided to get the ecco pro 130. Comes with shut-off taps and media although it is more expensive than the classic 150, it is also more power efficient (a higher flow rate with the same wattage rating). Meaning better cost saving in the long run.

I was given a Tetra EX Power filter quite some time back and though i haven't used it yet, i must say that it has a few design issues that i'm not comfortable with. Without going into details, one of the main issues is the impellor....... It was used by the previous owner for a short period of time (less than a yr) when the impellor was spoilt. He bought a new one and gave it to me together with the filter but that too is spoilt when i had a look at the spare. On closer inspection, i noticed that it is a design flaw that causes it to spoil easily. The reason is because the surface area of the white plastic "head" that is attached to the impellor body/magnet is very small, making it prone to coming off.
Does ADA sells external filter? Or you meant the china brand ADA 亚迪亚? If you meant the latter, it is not from ADA. It is a different brand from china. I know because i have a ADA MC915 external filter currently and done some research. The real ADA recommends eheim's filter on their website.

By the way findings from my friends and i,
Eheim ecco pro 130 rrp at qian hu: $215 (or $212, bad memory with numbers).
Eheim ecco pro 130 at C328: less than $200.
Ehiem ecco pro 130 at seaview: less than $200, they having promotion now, a friend just brought one recently.

I mention the rrp of ehiem classic 150 (2211) at qian hu is $58 in my first post. Well, i went back and checked. It is a sub-filter version, meaning no motor and media, just the chassis and maybe piping? I stop looking after i saw the words "without motorhead".
    Hope these info help

The $58 ones are meant to be used as pre-filter. Saw it during aquarama. ADA do have external filter. But there are third party ADA stuff in the market, stuff with the word 'ADA' but not exactly from them. Pretty easy to differentiate.

personally for me, i cant justify the need to get an ADA external filter when I can get an eheim for like a huge fraction of the price of an ADA...

I agree, eheim's filters are more than enough. Considering their efficiency the cost is definitely worth it.

Had some new information about where to get a good-priced eheim. I recommend NA if you are considering getting a first-hand ehiem.

Actually curious does anyone choose jet canisters from ADA over ehiem?

I've only seen them in use by a shop before. No personal friends using.

Correction for my reported rrp price of eheim ecco pro 130 at Qianhu, its $218. It comes with bio filter media. All brand-new eheim ecco pro 130 comes with media if i'm not wrong. There is a "media ready" yellow-red circle sticker on the box.

Classic 150 rrp is $115 without bio filter media, Qianhu's.

Seaview prices for Eheim products are reasonable. Just have to take note of the price tag color. Yellow means, item is already on discounted price hence no additional discount.

    Cheers!

Most, if not all, of the Eheim canister filters are yellow tagged.. Cheapest I've seen, unless others are having special sales.

Yea, depending on where you live and how you get to the LFS. I guess Seaview for people in the north/central, NA for people all around and C328 for people in the west are the places to get good deals for first-hand Eheim.
My point is effort, time and transportation cost to bring the Eheim back home should also be considered.

    Agree with ortegafever.
Personally still feel C328 has better price than Seaview when comes to Eheim. Have been comparing prices on classic canisters, spare parts, etc. The gap is quite..

Re: Where to buy best-priced first-hand Eheim?

The ADA canister filter looks like a diy version of the Eheim Classic. The diy part is where the pump is placed. It's like buying a branded continental car but with the engine visible and protruding out of it. Kinda like a beginner designer had their hand on it. Just saying like I see it. Their other accessories are beautiful to say the least.
