You might want to take care using land gardening fertiilizers. Some of them use ammonia or urea as an N source rather than NO3. Also, the ratio for the fertilizer you chose has a balanced N:P:K ratio, which may not be what you are looking for in a aquarium fertilizers. But then again everyone wants a different ratio. If I'm not wrong the EI ratio is 4:1:1 N:P:K, so you can try it out and use the P and K to guide how much you're dosing. N should be easier to obtain from other sources.
You could try dry fertilizers too, supposedly they're cheaper and more customisable in terms of your dosing. Some people do use gardening fertilizer sticks buried under a top layer of substrate like sand. Same for gardening soil under a layer of substrate.
Finally, you could try the cheap but troublesome method of mineralized topsoil. Can try googling that.

Oh I've been doing some reading on the internet. You could also try reading about the Walstad Method. Thinking of trying it too. Any master care to chime in about these low cost solutions?

I'm no master but it's also inclined to be a low tech setup also.
Some folks in fourm are using such setups in their tank(s).

The covering layer commonly used is lapis sand (I'm using lapis for a few small high ligh tanks). But you can use aquasoil also.

Isn't sand also usable. Like inert substrates. The soil provides the nutrients doesn't it

Search harder, my very 1st planted was sand + Horti soil. Search and you will see further details.
How much of each and how thick they are will affect also.

Try doing one with a small 1 feet with moderate lighting, experience is good.

IMO, can be done. Inert Substrate on top, Horti soil below. Lighting 22 watts (Abit overkill for this tank size, plant exploded in growth)
