    Hello,

Managed to take some photographs of a cryptocoryne flower in the wild before I was forced out of the forest by some menacing dogs...

    Is it Cryptocoryne cordata Griffith?

where did u took the pic? Singapore?

Is there any info this C. cordata griffith that you mentioned? I can't find it in the Crypts page.

It look more like a Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia to me.

    From the Crypts page

yes, agree with lorba on the ID. Feedback from a crypt expert in Holland also points to C. ponti, with a somewhat atypical inflorescene.

you very the suay :P , never give offering and pay homage to the Crypty Deity before you take photo, no wonder the siao kao all come and bite you Next time, pay respect - or bring some clueless goondu to distract the dogs ......

If you want to find griffithi, you will need to sacrifice one of your group to the hell hounds guarding the way to the lost terraces of Jhim Thompson....

The photographs were taken in Singapore. "Cryptocoryne cordata Griffith var xxx" was featured in the AQ photo album for Aquatic Plant Flowers and it had yellow flower also... but now that I saw the photos of C. Pontederiifolia flower, I think maybe you all are right after all.

Maybe I should have paid homage to the Cobra Deity first!

Yup sorry, i missed the word Griffith in the detail page. And I've forgotten that I added the Griffith to the database myself.

Lorba & Illumbomb, I think the 'Griffith' in the Crypt cordata images refers to the Mr Griffith who described the plant, not Crypt. griffithi (which always has brownish red limb surface with "rugose" texture, while C. cordata tends to be yellow with smooth limb.

So did you manage to find the Crypt terraces, Illumbomb?? I heard one of the hounds got bitten by a cobra once (and survived).

the "var xxx" is part of the scientific name and must follow the epithet (species name). The "Griffith" is the authority who described the species and is written after the complete scientific name. hence it should appear as Cryptocryne cordata var. xxx Griffith. Note the variety name is also not italicised (at least the abbreviation "var." is not).

Sorry about reviving such an old thread but does that mean there's a species difference between:
Cryptocoryne griffithii and Cryptocoryne cordata var. xxx Griffith?

Like Griffithii is one species and Cordata is another with a variant called Cordata griffith?

ahhh.. just wanted to be clear on that. I had this very confusing conversation with Azmi about griffithii and "cordata complex" the other day.
