I just bought a piece of driftwood which is about 1ft in length. Its been soaking for 4 days and it still won't sink!

I will be placing it in my tank this Saturday, anyways to make it sink faster? I have already poured boiling water over the wood.

    Thanks

Might be that the driftwood is not for aquarium use, because usually they will sink when soaked for 2-3 days, even without boiling water.

Did you just pour boiling water over? You should get a bucket big enough and poil kettles full of boiling water and soak the driftwood.

Some driftwood needs weeks. If you can't wait, just placed it in the tank and use big stones to weigh it down.

Depending on what wood you bought. Bogwood usually takes more than a month (sometimes a few) to sink. Some driftwood up to a week.

A way is to soak the wood in a big pail, weight down with a big stone. Water can be replaced constantly/daily with hot boiling ones. This is the way some guys did it here, usually treating bogwood, and sometimes, sturborn drifttwood.

To do it a faster way, tied a big enough rock to the wood using cable ties or whatever threads u have. Place it such that it is hidden from view immediately or soon covered by plants. Alternatively, make sure the wood can be taken out easily for removal of rock in the future. The last method is simply place a rock over it.

The main purposes of soaking the wood is to release the air trapped in the wood and to remove as much tanin material that is left in the wood.

someone said add baking soda to the soaking water. You might be able to observe extra bubbles coming out.

Reaction of baking soda and tannic acid ? don't know
