It's depend your par level actually, which are relevant to reflector quality, bulb amount, height level, etc.
Watt per gallon is not really accurate, but it's the most easy way measurement. Just keep an eye if algae start populating your tank, light drives everything.

Yes, u need a co2 cylinder for it.
To add on to milk comment, it also depend on your light type like T5,T8 and so on
    different florescence have penetration level.

yes, depend on the plant what plant to you have? if you planning without CO2, better half your light just turn ON 2x39W tube or less.

yes that odd only single switch..Are you sure? confirm?
Just like shadow suggested no c02 just used 2 t5 tube.
My previous tank i had 2 light sets with 4 tube each on a 3 2 2 tank
so that is a total of 8 tubes.....

    Re: Sam's Planted Tank

Very confirm, its only 90 dollar... so maybe that explains why lor.
but the lucky thing is seems like I didn't buy anything underpowered.

I like to rephrase my question left unanswered:

if I plant my tank and then start the tank fishless cycling for about 03-04 weeks; where will the plants get their co2 if I don't have co2 injector?

    Re: Sam's Planted Tank

Give it a week less. Then put danio or nice pleco inside. They are die hard.
Then continue cycling as per planned.

    Re: Sam's Planted Tank

from atmosphere, plant also generate CO2 at night, this is where light intensity important. To intense and plant grow will stunt due to lack of CO2

    Re: Sam's Planted Tank

    guys,

my tank (without plant yet) started growing white fuzzy thing.

well, I know it will go away when the tank is properly cycled / or after planted.

but it is now spreading to my soil, will it cause any damage?

    thanks !

Have you filled the tank with water yet? If not, then it sounds like mold.

If the tank is already filled with water, then its probably fungus growth from the wood pieces. Usually most people will boil the wood for a few hours to get rid of it beforehand, but even then sometimes it still grows during the initial period.

You can manually remove it, or just let it die off on its own... some fishes or shrimp eat it too.

The mold should be alright. I would suggest that you manually remove the mold/fungus. You can just scrape it off with a penknife or sharp object.

    Re: Sam's Planted Tank

3 tubes should be relatively fair enough to grow plants.

Even i was doing with 2 tubes to grow glosso, now move to 4 tubes , but now it's dimmable. So it doesn't count double.

What is that sitting on top on the driftwood?
And what plant is that right at the centre of the tank beside the driftwood?
it look like not an aquatic plant..is it?
