Cut the affected parts away and optimise the water conditions. Increase CO2. Check out the previous threads on 'BBA'.
Hi... anybody can help?
My Ricca are infested with an algae resemble very fine black hair that
grew to about 3 to 4 cm in length.
I ask a shop owner and he suggested that i dun use any chemical but by breeding some fish to eat it off.. he recommended SAE (slow) and Platy(faster) anything one with second opinion.?
I think my hair grass also having simliar algae... only that it so fine and green that it hard to spot.
what went wrong and how can i prevent it without hurting other plants

I'm back!
The hair algae cover in between my ricca.. hence it hard to completely get rid of it......
Any have used INTERPET Algae Control for anti hair algae?.. does it work?

I think the only way to get rid of BBA is to cut the infected alway and that optimal the CO2 level in your tank. what is INTERPET algae Control?

if the infestion is bad, algae crew nor chemical is of much use, less killing all the plants as well.
Get a fresh batch of riccia, clean up the tank and start again. Riccia is fast. This time round, take note of the amount of fertilizers, Co2 and light you input.
By the way. please share with us your tank parameter by filling up this :

Not aware that SAE and Platy eat BBA. Read that SAE does eat new shoots of BBA, but I've never seen it in person (maybe new BBA is too small to see anyway...)

IMHO, SAE does help in my experience, I have seen them eat the black and red hair algae in my tank. Granted, my problem is only very minor. Platies, I'm not sure, They are always nibbling at the gravel and leaves so there might be some truth. But the best way, as others have mentioned, is to as much as possible get rid of the infected plant parts.
