Apistos pairing

I have no experience in apistos and I am interested in getting them. I have seen some LFS selling them in pairs. Are these "pairs" natural pairs or LFS just put 2 together as a package? Is it advisable to get as a package as it is quite expensive. It would be much cheaper if I choose 1 male and 1 female from a group of them in a tank. Will they be tolerant of each other if I do this? Also will apistos be aggressive towards small fishes like cardinals? Thanks.

apisto can b distinguished by their colour, female tend to be yellow w/ few coloration compared to male. its only advisable to buy them separately bcoz u can choose the according to ur like.*its not guarantee that the pair u saw frm the lfs is in healthy cond.
actually rare & wild caught apisto, cause 2X/3X more expensive
its advice to keep 1 male to 2 female of same type
if u have 2 male,it tend to be more aggre. towards each other when there is female. its a friendly fish that can be kept in a communiy tank, apisto will eat small tetra that can fit its mouth but cardinal is fine.
so choose ur apisto carefully i advice agassizi or cacatoides for beginners.
