Boil it if you have big pot.
Else soak in boiling watet. And close it for a week.
    Rinse and repeat 3weeks.

Note. Must be completely sink. Else it wont soak water and float

I use toyogo box. Closing it ensure water level stayed there. And no mozzies or accindental spilling of dangerous stuffs.

Re: How to process drift wood?

everyday throw old water and put in new boiling water
depends whats the quality of the diftwood you get the time you spend to make it sink or clean varies
those that are soft (usually shrinkwrapped in plastic) usuallyt leach tannins and take a longer time.
those that are hard like those from Greenchapter normally dont take so long to cure
one can normally see the standard of the wood - quite obvious

Re: How to process drift wood?

No need so extreme. Just to leach out tannins and soak them out so that they dont float.

If are kiasu and afraid it has bacteria just add some hydrogen peroxide during soaking, just make sure you wash it off later.

I just scrub the driftwood with old toothbrush under running water. It it floats just boil in water. If it sinks just dump it into the display but only if you can risk loosing your fishes. So far so good for me no losses yet.

Re: How to process drift wood?

Need not process. Put it into the fish tank. Downside - it will only tan your tank water. No biggie here.

fishes are known to die from overfeeding due to pollution, but never due to driftwood poisoning : )
