guys my new co2 set has some major problems ...

first of all the knob where i adjust the co2 bp2 leaks electricity, electrocuting me as i touch it...

secondly, bps refers to the number of bubbles inside the bubble counter right?

i was blasting my co2 so much that i couldnt even count the number of bubbles, but my output was like peanuts inside the tank where my atomizer was ... is it that my bubble counter (JBJ BRAND) leaking? or is it because my solenoid was faulty

my solenoid was buzzing like nobody's business when i switch it on ...
btw its brand is sun yang ... bought from plantas aquaticas ...

according to the boss this brand has not many problems ... apparently not ...

anyone can help me with this? should i change my solenoid to JBJ brand?
i wonder if i can get any refund for this faulty product ...

try putting the CO2 tank directly on the floor to earth it. there will be lesser electrical leakage. search under 'solenoid' and you will find alot of discussion about this brand of solenoid recently. I am currently using this brand as well for both my tanks. Actually just bought 1 on Sat and not giving me any problems till now.

bring your co2 set back to where you bought it.
show them that it leaks electricity and ask for an exchange.
    electricity is dangerous.

after searching thru the forums ... this particular brand of solenoid leaks electricity very frequently ... common remedies include reversing the 2 pin plug to reduce the electricity current leakage ...

however my concern is there should be zero/zilch/nada/kosong electricity current leakage in the first place, whether it is placed on the ground to ground it or not ...

unfortunately i bought the set at plantas aquaticas and there seems to be no other brand to exchange the solenoid for ... would it be appropriate for me to ask for a refund? i bought it today, tested it out today and it has failed me miserably...

frankly it would be a mockery if i were to die from a hobby such as fishkeeping ...

Just exchange a new set and test it on the spot. I'm also using that brand, no leak.
    I'm back!

    My experience

    Want to share something also.

I had leakage problems once, it comsume the whole 3.2L & 3.5L tank in 3weeks times. Steady right.....at the begininig i thought it was the faulty Co2 but after thinking though, how can both also comsume at such a fast rate.... Finally found out is the cheap lousy air tube (both the transparent & green color type) thats is causing the problems. I immediately replace it with an industrial tube (SMC) Ha....i works fine now.

    Cheers!

I spoke to 4 LFS about this San Yung brand solenoid. All of them have cutomers coming back with problems with the product... much more then they usually would with other brands. All with the problems as described in the last few weeks in AQ.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.

Now you guys see why I lost sleep just thinking whether to buy a CO2 set? ((read Chit Chat "Have you ever lost sleep....")

Btw, how does the San Yung solenoid look like? What colour?

I never bothered to check my solenoid brand, which came w the Dymax CO2 set. What with all the complaints abt current leakage and overheating, I decided to risk my life for you guys - I touched my solenoid the other night and it wasn't hot at all and there wasn't the slightest trace of eddie currents. Neither is it giving any noise during operation mode except the "tripping" sound when the timer goes off (either from timer or solenoid, or both).

I would therefore recommend the Dymax set which has served me well from day 1.

u mean plantas did not want to exchange for you? if plantas has the JBJ one, then it would be worth it by topping up another $30 or so to get it.... wish you luck again. the other LFS like NA are willing to exchange for faulty solenoids.

Oh, you are the lean guy in specs who brought your solenoid for exchange at around 2+? So how's it going with your solenoid? Tried the earthing method and still doesnt work?

Need comments from the experts here: Do you guys think it would help if we were to wrap the solenoid with insulating tape? But I couldn't agree more with tawauboy's reply.... dun play with electricity...

I believe if u were to earth yr Solenoid, Once u turn yr solenoid on it will trip yr ELCB(Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker). Thus i dont see a point doing tat. Only way is to bring the solenoid back n change for a new 1... i am personally using a San Yung Solenoid reg from NA, No problems.

As for wraping it with insulation tape, Its like putting yrself in a sauna without anyway out.. in time u will die, Same like the solenoid, once it has no way to release heat, it will shorten its life span dractically, it MIGHT even explode. For myself i just installed heat sinks to the solenoid to help with the Heat dissipation.

    Just my 2cents

to earth the solenoid, you'll need to connect a wire to any metallic contact on the solenoid. the other end of the wire, connect it to the ground pin of the wall socket. do this only if you know electricity and take extreme care. should not trip the elcb. if it does, don't use the set anymore.

The brand is on the front of the regulator. I may have misspelled the name though.

I did try one piece for a tank I set up for someone else. On the seond day, there was a burning smell and they had to turn it off... which luckily they did. Cos the black plastic housing on the solenoid melted. This is a huge potential electircal and fire hazard.

One of the shops I spoke to, said out of 10 they sell, 3 have to be exchanged.

Anzai, try getting your money back or credit from the LFS, if he does not have any other brand to exchange for you. Frankly, with all the problems ppl are experiencing with this brand, I think it's safer to spend a bit more and get a more expensive but reliable brand. I believe the JBJ is only about $40 more.

At NA, you just need to top up another $30 to get a JBJ. With this bad experience, think it would be quite worthwhile to get JBJ which includes 6 months warranty as well.
