your looks better than the algae attached my ohko stones, but it looks natural though. I really don't bother when it grow like natural.

Anyway, you could brush it during the wc time, unfortunately i can't do that on the ohko stone .

Use a new tooth brush and gently scrub them off.Only recommended for you to do so after your HC has started to take root into your substrate as scrubbing action will generate huge enough current to push them off substrate

Re: Need advise on algae problem

I read from the internet solution on having a 2 hr break in between the total 8 hr light. I have so far test it with my 3ft medium planted tank with tropical fishes for the last 3 weeks. So far Algae growth are subsidying while my plants still growing. Let see for the next couple of months then.
My setting of lighting timing is switching ON from 7am to 12 noon. Switch OFF from 12 noon to 2pm. Switch ON from 2pm to 6pm. 7 days a week with a digital timer.
    Hope this help

Re: Need advise on algae problem

The algae seems to soften the edges of the rocks, giving them a more aged and natural look. I'd be inclined to leave it on the rocks and let nature take its course.

It depend on the scape, if you are trying to make a mountain scape then algae on rock is not welcome but if you want to make a jungle scape then algae on rock make it look more natural.

Spray excel if you have algae on the top of "wanna be" rock mountain. It's turning to white and it's like snow at the top of mountain.

    * never do that, just a weekend imagination.

You guys have a great weekend ahead
