So that's Lapis sand! I gave away a big bucket of it after replacing with coral sand and it was a huge mistake!
The neons started to die at a rate of one every week without any obvious sign. The plants stop spouting shots or new roots and died a slow death.
Why did I change to white sand? - lapis sand tends to camouflage the coloration of some species whereas white sand is a good contrast to everything in the tank.
Looks like I have to go back to square one.
Neptune,
Maybe the problem is not using the coral sand, but the "changing"
There is always a risk when we make some changes with the fauna already used to the environment... maybe i am wrong, just my opinion.

Using the sand and relocation of the tank from direct sunlight, plus the additional plant helps to eradicate algae problem.
