Nice growth on the hairgrass. What light are you using? Any reason why you didn't start with a bigger tank? I usually encourage people start with minimum 60cm if possible.

Due to work commitment and the arrival of my daughter, I had no choice but to give up my fishkeeping hobby.
Now that my daughter is turning 7 and strangely interested in fishes to my delight, I reignited my hobby, albeit in a very much smaller scale.
So here we go, a 15L tank planted with solely harigrass with some rocks. Haha, I can't call this an Iwagumi style, since my rock selection was limited and desperate.
Tank dimension: 25cm x 25cm x 30cm
Susbtrate: Borneo Wild Shrimp Soil
Fertilisers: Borneo Wild Boost A Revitaliser Capsules inserted into the substrate, Daily doses of Borneo Wild Growth, Lush and Vivid
Fauna: 9 Pseudomugil Sp. 'Blue Neon', 2 Ottocinclus, 1 algae eater which looked like SAE, 4 Yamato shrimps and 2 Nerite snails.
Water change: Once every 5 days
It is coming to a month now, and the hairgrass is spreading quite nicely, with runners going everywhere.
Currently I'm letting the hairgrass grow and let the runners take me to where they want to be, and I think I'll give them a nice haircut once they start to fill out the tank abit more, possibly in another month's time.
Tank has to be covered as the Pseudomugils are very skittish and jumpy since there's no much of a floating plant cover on top, perhaps not the best fishes of choice in such a small tank, but I was intrigued by its form and colour, being a suaku after a 7 year break in the hobby you see. I've gotten them on my floor quite often when I do my daily feeding routine, and unfortunately, 2 became salted fishes when i wasn't around and jumped out through the tiniest of gap left behind the back of the tank.
Well, it's great to be back in the hobby with so many new things to learn once again!

Hi Tongyang,
I'm using LED lights, there're 3 bulbs there, from the illumination, it is very highlight for the plants. I'm quite lucky to have gotten quite a balanced light, CO2 and nutrients there, so far not much algae has appeared, save for very little on the rocks. I'd have preferred more green on the rocks, but am mindful that algae may also develop if I crank up the nutrient level too high. The glass wall is still free from GSA.
It is both a space constraint and time constraint that led me to set up a small tank, plus my wife is also worried that one large tank may lead me to another 20 plus tanks in the house, which was the case many years ago. This tank sits right at a corner in my living room, which has a minimalistic design as well.
With a teenage boy and a young girl, you'd find that time is a luxury, which is also how it led me to have a simple scape with just the hairgrass. I wouldn't say it is easy maintaining it, but smaller volume sure does lead to shorter maintenance time, something I can do when the day has ended and everyone's in bed.![]()
Wow, over 20 tanks! I don't even have that amount of fish. Yep, I feel for you about having space and time.
is that the japanese hairgrass that you're using?
Welcome back to getting your fingers wet. About time too...

Welcome back to the hobby, Kenny

Hi Ronnie,
That's me from the old Plantnutx
How have you been ?
I started off with a small group of these Ps. 'Red Neon', 7 fishes, I think. Now, I've a bunch of fry of various sizes. Largest of the juvenile have joined their parents while the small ones are still taking their bluddy own sweet time to grow. Your group can go into another tank.
Not sure how many male Endlers left in my dump tank but will dig around and meet up with EC at the shop one of these evenings.
Eng Chuan, time passed and life changes, sometimes with little surprises along the way but it can be better. Still in one piece lah and still very much enjoying the hobby.

Ah, it is really therapeutic watching the oxygen pearling coming from the hairgrass, which reminds me the very thing that attracted me to planted aquarium more than a decade ago.

Sorry, don't know how to embed the youtube video here, perhaps someone more IT savvy can help me out here?![]()

Here you go bro
Advice from boss Felix
Wow nice! What lights and filter you using? And any form of CO2 injection?

Wow your fishes are feeling alright? How do you measure if it's 30 or 40ppm?
What is The total wattage of your LED? Must be the CO2 that makes them pearl..
