    Anyone came across this species in any LFS?

    this so call blue "emperor" tetra is well avaliable in singapore market.
    You can drop by some LFS most probably you will see them.Getting their sky blue colouration out from sheen is the tricky part!! .if you have a liking for it maybe it possible to try the Nematobrycon Palmeri or the Nematobrycon lacortei.

    I think the photo you posted has been doctored, the blue Emperor is not that blue.

    Some LFS just claim that they are selling emperor tetra, which should be Nematobrycon Palmeri I assume. Becoz Inpaichthys kerri and Nematobrycon Palmeri are quite similar looking. How would I know whether the LFS are selling which? I am thinking of getting the these 2 breeds as well as Lacortei.

    Advise appreciated.

    Choong Sua at Bukit Timah Plaza has the kerri as well as palmeri. Plantas Aquaticas has all three species you mentioned (though the lfs is running out of male larcoteis; those red eyes really rock man!)

    But I guess the larcotei is in season now cos I've bought about 20 or so of these babies from various places. Kingfisher, Plantas and Wu Hu (which I just visited today) have stocks for them. Grab your larcotei while they last!

    That's the kerri. Its body reflects a gorgeous blue sheen off a very weak light source (The boss, Chong at F&F demonstrated it to me with his tank of kerri).

    I dun think fishbase.org would allow doctored photos. But then again, I can't help but to agree with Kingfisher (the person and not the lfs) that the picture does look somewhat artificial. Any comments from the photography experts around?

    thought wu hu is selling the black neon tetras and blue-eye emperor tetra only. just visited on wednesday. F&F has the kerris? thought it was the palmeri. have problem identifying them....

    FishBase has excellent scientific information, but pictures are contributed by layman and are riddled with errors. I detect some recent efforts to clean up, but really their main focus is still the scientific text and reference information, not pics.
    why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    Wu Hu, from what I saw, sells quite a decent range of tetras, not just the black neon and blue-eye emperors. As for red-eyed emperors (also known commonly as rainbow tetras), perhaps they arrived after your last visit. Quite sure that they are the Namatobrycon Lacortei cos I bought 4 more to add to my collection 3.1. They look very healthy, but somewhat conditioned. Interesting because considering that they are wild-caught, they responded rather quickly to a hand raised near the tank thinking that they were about to be fed. Hopefully its a sign of stability and not they are farm-bred. In any case, the farms might have had held on to the stock for sometime before releasing them into the market.(consoling myself :P ) Or maybe they are just hungry.
