I'm using the EXPEDIT as well in my bedroom. However, my tank is on top of the shelf. Not inside one of the squares. Also, I'm only using a GEX 450 Slim. Anyway, so far no warping.

Not advicesable, look at product description, partcleboard? Paper? I'm sure it is not water proof
Expedit shelves are hollow in the middle to make the shelves light-weighted. So don't try putting a flooded tank on it.
Actually, I'm pretty sure a small tank is not going to be an issue. I've even placed my tank on a LACK side table with no issues. With regards to waterproofing, if water spills, it can easily be wiped off the laminate. Issues only arise when the water seeps in through the edges of the board after prolonged use and degradation of the seam.

hi
Agreed with all brothers. Don't even try. I bought the chipboard table (supposed to withstand 50 kg). I just used it as normal office desk - it bent within 6 months. In addition, if chipboard is damp, it will wrap & weaken.
If you want to use ikea shelving, use the softwood kind. I have used it for more than 10 years & it's still going strong.
I would rather you put one on the top shelf. It might warp over time but it's definitely safer than having 4 tanks in each compartment, which is bound to fail.
Need something to scratch that itchy hand of mine.

just like the many bros here, i strongly discourage the use of ikea shelves for any fish tank unless it has a strong metal frame holding it up.
ikea shelves are known to warp after prolong use especially from such a heavy load.
You can always get the tank makers to do up a shelf for you, or even just a simple metal stand. The shelves they make are probably pricier but it's also classier and more hardy than the shelves you would get outside. I have got a wrought iron one from N30, and they can also customised/build tanks for you.

If its not metal, avoid.
Ikea well known to use chipboard, which will warp over time when used in damp zone.
Learning the hardway, not the highway.

Do it at your own risk.
Ikea furniture are made of compress wood so its not strong nor it is waterproof.
Get a proper tank stand for your fish tank.
It will definitely warp.
Oh my.. Thanks for all your replies. So anyone knows how much roughly to customise cabinet?
