    hi all,

Introduce new tetra into my planted tank. On day 2 saw white spot on the fish. Suspect itch so i took the fish out and place on a separate tank and add medicine. Should i add anti-itch into the planted main tank? Will it affect the plant?

Re: White spot on new fish

My opinion only so don't take it all in and assume it's right. You'll have to make that decision.

The tank is empty except for the plants right? So for me, I will leave the tetra in. If I have carbon filters, I will remove them before adding the medication. I've not come across any article that says it will affect plants. It will affect shrimps though. So for me I will not remove the tetra. I will treat the whole tank. This ensures that the parasite is destroyed. Getting rid of ich will take time. Even when you don't see the white spots on the body of the fish, keep treating for another week and perhaps with less dosage. Once that's all done, I place the carbon filter back in.

By the way, mortality is inevitable during such treatment. Good luck.

Hi vsgensis, thanks for the reply. Treated the tetra and put back the main tank but white spot coming back. Guess no choice have to treat the whole tank. At first I thought might not be my tank bcos its fresh from LFS.

Same just got 4 cardinal tetra. At LFS cannot really see due to lights...come back so obvious. Took out...gave methylene blue for a day. Never improve...gave some salt and water change.
    They all died.

Re: White spot on new fish

I'll usually use aquarium heater to crank up tank temperature to 32-31 Deg/C and white spot will disappear in 7-10 days. It always work.

Alternatively is anti-ich solution by Ocean Free and any branded brand, follow the dosage instruction. That will eradicate the issue. However, plants don't take it too well with anti-ich solution. Plant response is immediate noticeable with bare eyes

Pls recommend me the solution. There are so many at the LFS see also blur. So far I use methyl blue and pet Fran brand F. Say remedy for zero slime, white spot and velvet.

Yes, that should suffice. Don't worry. Btw, plants will die and shrimps might be killed. That's all.

Just gotten myself this too from an lfs near kovan mrt. I'm having the same problem with my cardinal tetras. Really shocked to see the spots, it has been a long time since I was last hit by this problem.
