Hi, recently i just set up a pico size tank in my office for keeping CRS. This is my first time keeping shrimps so some advice would be good.

    My tank parameters are:
    pH: 6.4
    Temperature: 24 - 25 deg C (Day/Night)
    Ammonia/Nitrite: 0
    Nitrate: 10 ppm

As for GH/KH i haven't test it yet, strongly considering getting that test kit this week. Any advice for this?

Tank water consist of RO/DI water, with Mosura Mineral Plus.

Also as you can see i'm having some algae problems already. I'm not even feeding my shrimps! Any solutions for this?

For the algae, you might want to lower the number of hours that you turn the light on. pH values seems good, and unless you're intending to breed high quality CRS, the gH/kH shouldn't be a huge huge concern for you. You can get the sera test kits for this.

Are you using a HOB filter, and is that the intake in the back right of the tank? You might want to cover the intake with a filter sponge to prevent shrimplets from getting sucked into the filter.

Its not really a filter. This is a LumiQ tank, i just detach the UGF portion, buy a inlet guard and stuff sponge inside. The main purpose is just for water circulation.

Right now my tank is only having 2.5 watt, if i lower the number of hours of light, will it affect the fissiden growth? Right now my fissidens are still in the midst of switching from emersed to submerged growth.

I'm going to get a tds pen that can measure gH as well. Do you think i still need the kH test kit?

Sorry for being naggy ah bro. Appreciate the help

You can get a couple of snails to help with the algae problem.. Have you considered the office air-conditioning being switched off during the weekends? The temperature might soar and the shrimps might not be able to take the temperature swing. Nitrate seems high.. Get some frogbits or do more frequent water changes to reduce nitrate levels.

I would rather you do more frequent water changes then to throw frogbits to contain the nitrate levels.

Re: New Office Tank for CRS

Would horned nerite snails help with the algae problem? I want a very tiny snail to do this job actually. Since a bigger snail would look ugly in a tank this size in my opinion...

Right now i'm doing frequent water changes to keep the nitrate level below 5 ppm, any other methods besides throwing in floating plants?

As for aircon being turned off, shouldn't be an issue as when aircon turn off over weekend, i turn on the fan, monday morning i come back before they on the air con, temp at 25 deg. (with aircon 24deg.)

I'm afraid the otto will be too active, this tank too small to have enough algae also i think, but my main concern is its activeness, might mess up that bit of sand i have in front

What types of nerite snail are small and won't harm my shrimp? I'm planning to get only one though, thinking of horned nerite.. But no clue where to get it?
