My new setup. Some of you might have read about my previous post about my problem with floating driftwood. The stones in the pic are keeping my driftwood from floating.

So far, my HC is doing very well. I started with emerse but when my driftwood floated they were pull out from the soil. I actually expected them to melt but they didnt. I also planted UG and it seems like they are doing well as well.

I like the hardscape, I suggest you put rocks random size around the wood. Also put heavy plant on the left and slowly change to lighter plant on the right

Bro, I know this is rather late, but if you making a new scape with driftwood, dumb the drift wood into a big pot of water and boil the water. definitely by that day your driftwood sink.. Or at least in 2 days.

    Re: New setup

    Hi...

actually... the biggest problem I had was the size of the drift wood as mentioned by bro Ahxren. I didnt manage to boil the wood because of it's size and after adding in water for a week my tank suffered algae bloom. Nothing I do can save it. I tried changing water - 3 times a week up to 50% but didnt help. I didnt add any fishes yet and in the end I took down the scape and re-scape it with rocks. I will upload once I am able to. I suspect the algae bloom was due to the drift wood.

    Hi goose,

I would say initially algae boom is pretty common in new tank because of unstable water parameter. In addition, you lighting duration pay an important role in it. Driftwood looks nice! It will be a pity to remove it

I agree, pity to remove. Do you have any of those plastic red pail used for washing clothing? Is the driftwood still too big? If no, the red pail can take boiling water temperature.

Yes I would think it is overworking these tiny plants too much. Strong lighting should be accompanied with adequate nutrients. However increasing the dosage may induce algae growth. Trying reducing the lights or cut short the photoperiod.

It might because emerged to submerged symptoms, while emerge plant doesn't need to compete to get co2, submerge they are competing each other.

So co2 should be in top knots during this transition period. Assuming you dont have flow issue. High co2 less flow means less distribution. It still suffers them.

Higher co2 will drive higher uptake, make sure you are not limit the nutrients too. With less light it will drive less co2 and nutrients uptake, with lesa growth as consequences

Hi, my co2 is set to very light green and the rate of flow is more than 1000l/hr. High flow rate is also part of my concern.

    Re: New setup

Plants is the best deficiency indicator, drop checker is alternate tool. But i don't really depend on it too much.

Once upon a time my drop sees as lime green, but part of plants are melting. It was sorted once i reposition the lily and the hard scape, trim the plants that possibly break the flow, etc

We might have different scenarios to have, but sometime it plays the part a lot.

    Re: New setup

With lots of light, you have less room to maneuver. All plant grow fast including algae

With drop checker, first make sure you set properly. Some required to dilute with KH=4 solution, others not depending on the brand. One thing for sure do not dilute it with your tank water even though the manual said so. Especially if you have buffering type of soil.

Once you set properly, you cash move around your drop checker to check for dead spot.
