    Hi all,
it's been a while I haven't posted. I'd like to ask you for small recommendation help in choosing new external filter. I'm running 30 litres freshwater tank with calm fish M. ramirezi, P. simulans and also O. affinis and some amano shrimps.

Tank is in very good condtion for a while and i'd like to upgrade filter from hanging to external. My best practise is to use EHEIM (quiet, durable, u know), so I'd like to choose proper series with large filtration media volume and stronger pump. Outlet tube will be half-closed by eheim valves to lower output water pressure/flow.

    I'm choosing between:

    Ecco 2034
    + only 8W
    - just 4L filter volume

    Professional serie III 2071
    + 6L filter volume
    - I've heard that 3rd series has got some technical issues and it's the worse series EHEIM ever made.

    Any opinion?

why not go with the classic series? 2211 perhaps? I can imagine that the one you shared above is going to turn that small tank into a washing machine :S

That's why I said: Outlet tube will be half-closed by eheim valves to lower output water pressure/flow.

So once again, I'm asking about filters quality etc, not suitability for aquarium I described. Thx

    Choosing new EHEIM filter

Ecco is awesome, especially the self priming feature
I haven't used the other filter but I have tried the classic. And the Ecco is superior in my opinion.

However, just my 2 cents, but I think that if you use the valves, you might put too much pressure on the pump by restricting the water flow

    2034 will be sufficient.
depends on what kind of media you have in there as well to provide the maximum surface area.
i think if you going to get the 2071, it might be bigger than your tank..

have you considered the eheim aquacompact?

Since he mentioned he does not bother about suitability, then between the 2 options, the Ecco.

    Re: Choosing new EHEIM filter

I'm currently using an Eheim 2224 (the Professional Series, not Pro 3) on one of my 1.5ft tanks (45cm x 24cm x 30cm, which is around 32 litres) and i also adjust my output flow control (originally 700 l/ph) to around half throttle (so its around 300-350 l/ph), so far its been working well and quietly for the past 6+ months.

I like having high filter volume to tank volume ratios in my tanks too.

Btw, the tank i use it in has a 45cm length and i use a glass lily pipe set, so the flow has time to dissipate and is "softened" further by the time it reaches the opposite side of the tank... not sure how such larger external filters with much higher flow rates would fare in your narrower cube-style tank though (you'll probably just have to diffuse the flow more).

Thank you guys. Ecco seems to be verified quality with low consumption. Moreover outlet and inlet tubes will be connected to prepared lilly pipes. I'll keep u updated with new pictures

    Re: Choosing new EHEIM filter

Dump more medias on your filter, lily pipe. It will reduce up to 50% of your filter water cycle capability.

get slightly bigger one, so it maintain it's flow delivery once it's dirty and older. You can adjust the throughput by the valve on certain eheim model
