The best way is to redo everything, but he got live stock in it. So i suggest 50% water change and wash sponge with tap water 1st. It's like redo everything.
After that water change will be wash with tank or age water.

so as long as i use a filter guard to prevent shrimplets from being sucked by the inflow, adjust the outflow to small outflow - it would be safe? CAUSE bought an ehiem filter for my 2feet tank, didnt really want to waste time selling it or waste not using it

Yup, a shrimp filter guard will help prevent shrimplets from being sucked into the filter... but make sure you get those shrimp guards with small enough holes, CAUSE there are some stainless steel mesh ones with rather large mesh holes and i've found with those the tiny few days old shrimplets can still get sucked into the filter (then they will just live in the canister filter until you clean it and "rescue" them back).Originally Posted by marx

Its okay to adjust the outflow to slow down the current (don't reduce the inflow though, or else will have air cavitation issues), but not too low until you hear the motor start to make grinding noises (which means too much strain on the motor), so you'll need to test and find the best setting.
