Breeding maybe bro?
Hi Peeps,
Need some help from experience on Mac keeper. Past 2 weeks my WC Mac had been hidding. The pair had been doing well when i got them and had fit in nicely which they even brood twice.
the pair had been living in a 2 ft tank going on fan, day temp is 28 night had been 26. they had brood in such condition. but since then they just keep hidding.
Bro out there if there a need for more parmeter on water and etc please let me know i'll try to get them but really need to know what actually happen.

Nope unlikely, my pair had gone through brooding before so i know their behavouir and now it is different. so that why i'm worried

Thank Bro Edwin 1987 and MCE, it unfortunate that the pair had pass on to meet the creator in the betta heaven.
Good news is after locating my new pair in the office last yr Nov they had fit well and had spawned a few time. Sad thing is I'm still working on how not to let the male swallow it currently still have 6 fries left at a size of 3cm

I will see what can be done in setting up the brooding environment for these beauties when I get back from Europe.
Will try to local Muller who has successfully bred them, I was told the gave out Mac to participants of the recent Italy Betta Show in the hope to populate this 'threaten' species.
Also DIY Micro Chillers are available to support small aquariums...
We can form a work group for those interested in Breeding Mac ...

I'm currently having two pairs, said to be from brunei, all females have the eye on the fin, but too young to breed. Noticed recently the weather in sg is weird, i used to keep them with no issues on water temp, but recently the weather is so unbearable even for me. Will be sourcing for a 2nd hand chiller already. And ya, i would love to be in this project!!
I don't have macs so I'll be watching from the sidelines, keep us updated to save this beauties !

I saw some macrostomas in a betta shop at Roxy Square. Sorry I did not pay attention to the shop name as I was walking past and happen to peer through the glass.

Current tank: 1 4 tier 3ft fish rack
Livestock: WC Ivanacara Adoketa, WC Apistogramma Kelleri 'Red Cheeks', A , WC Apistogramma Mendezi, WC Apistogramma Cruziero, WC Apistogramma Elizabethae and WC Biotoecus Operularis.
I stop buying Betta from Traders these days, esp the LFS took in trade-in fishes to resell.
Normally I inquire about the line/genetic of the fish from the Breeders before I would purchase the Betta fish.
Buying Mac is another challenge, esp the wild caught that had not been fully quarantined...I spent more on fish medicines only to realized the fish had come with the disease when it first arrived.
So what had been said about 'keeping Mac alive for 6 months' is very appropriate for us. In hot weather places, chiller unit or aircon room would be essential for the wild Mac.
