Hey I have a loose amazon/orinoco biotope going on right now in my 3ft. Currently there are ~10 Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi) and 2 Royal Whiptails (Sturisoma sp.).
Now I was wondering if I could have several angelfish in it, which would put me at the question, would the angelfish eat the pencilfish? I know they do eat neon tetras in the wild, and would like to know if I were to get several smaller specimens of angelfish and let them grow with the pencilfish till they get bigger, would there be any danger to the pencilfish? Thanks.

    Pencilfish & Angelfish Compatability?

I think it should be fine if the tank has many areas for hiding and if both species grow together.
But be warned, angels grow fast and they can be very aggressive so your pencils may never really be safe. They may not come into the open, therefore angels can end up dominating the tank.

    Re: Pencilfish & Angelfish Compatability?

Generally, it is never a good idea to keep two types of fish together, unless both types are equal in number and size. Or if a few types of fish with many specimens each, they will at least be deterred from being assertive and aggresive. Fish can be real bullies once they are accustoemd to a tank.

But even the same species of fish can be aggresive to their own kind, depending on their character. I always remove (and discard) the offending bullying fish.

The most peaceful fish I have come across are Goldfish and Corydoras Sterbai. They are such gentle and peaceful fish which do not disturb others at all.
LIFE IS UNBEARABLE WITHOUT A FISH TANK!!!
