Since it's a 'First planted tank' thread, i believe he has just begin & we should give him some space for improvement rather then to hit straight down.

What's 'stiff' subjective? i believe you might be able to shed some pointers to share with the rest of us who don't quite understand the terminology you've used.

I couldn't grow Hairgrass when i first went into planted tank. So i feel that we should give credits to those who've put in their effort to show their pictures & to share with us.

I can't even classify your statement to be a 'constructive critic'.
    Cheers!
Firstly, i couldnt agree more with this statement. Well said Tay!

Honestly, with the previous comment coming from a self proclaimed expert with 2 straight failures, where every single ADA project ended up within weeks of startup in the Buy/Sell threads, and now again with a sale which resembles that of a "quitting" syndrome, it makes you wonder ...

There is absolutely no comparison between this 2 journals and blue33. http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=41905
    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=40824

Blue33 has created with success a well balance growing tank. He understands the basic principles revolving around aquascaping and is indepth in knowing the right needs for plant growth. Even for a first planted, blue33 has pretty much exceeded that of the 2 project failures i have mentioned. A picture of how well your tank is being setup explains a thousand words. Yours may not be an ADA setup, but if you ever submit your tank as a "beginner" award, you will definitely have my vote ! And i dont mean that just from my whole opinion but from most of us here as well.

Dont be too distracted from comments given by people who would risk putting 2 pairs of apisto in a 1FT tank just to satisfy his desire for a "challenge".

is it just me or is your glosso slowly winning the battle?
last pic update i thought the border was at the right side of your rock
now its seems to be closer to the left side of the rock already

and your "protection cage" is very interesting
never thought of nor seen any such used in a fish tank before!
innovative idea. look forward to seeing if it will affect the plant in any negative manner
my 1st impression on seeing the pic was that you were trying to keep something in
read the text then realised it was to keep something (the fishies) out!

and did i mention i am impressed by your hg growth?
i can never get it to grow so dense and nice and green
you are one, jervis is another who seems to do well with hg
mine always seems to be kind of more sparse and less green

Oh! I've moved the rocks more to the right to make space for my new plant "Eustralis Stellata". Glosso is still in the same position. The stainless steel mesh does help to protect my "Gu Jing" from fish attack. I'm thinking of removing the Torpedo away from this tank, but no spare space, but the girl in the house like this fish. I maybe setting up another 2ft tank for my new project.

Jap HG. I believe if i can do it you also can do it, trial and error you will get the result soon.

Sagittaria subulata can really get on my nerve, they spread their runners widely. I'm really impress by your choice of plants & the passion to keep pruning them back. So as they say, there is no hard & fast rule in using plants.

i think the picture was taken at a angle resulting that the glosso might have won the battle. Coupled with curve tank to magnify the area. The determination to keep both at bay is admirable.

Congrats for the flowering of the Sagittaria subulata!
    Cheers!

Thanks Benetay! Sagittaria subulata is really a nightmare for me, it creeps anywhere they want, i've to always keep an eye on it, mouse chase rats. You are right, Glosso has being always in the same position, is the angle shot and also due to curve tank . I may consider let Glosso conquer one day.

Currently i let it grow wild, it becomes my plant collection centre(also cultivation centre) with all kinds of plant inside. As i've already setup another 2ft Optiwhite tank, currently going through cycling. Will update another thread once ready. Thanks btw.

    Very interesting thread!

Even if this is your first planted tank, you make me wanna tear my tank down and restart with different plants to try again.

By the way, are you using chiller on that tank?

Ya bring us through your starting stage as well?

    Cheers, Christophe

If you grow your plant well, you get rewarded on crystal clear water and you have happy fish swimming inside, it takes awhile for a tank to mature to this stage. The whole ecosystem is working perfectly inside this tank, what ever plant i throw inside it just grow, i've remove my strong lighting inside with only 55W PL light to slow down the growth and it still grow well. Currently the water is much clear then you see here. I've used another fert regime and is kicking good.

Yeah I try different plants too. Each plant has different grow speds. And so are a bit slow or disapointing so can just remove them.

I do keep cutting back my creeping grasses through - i want to have some bare gravel

Agreed! Is a good way of having a cultivating tank for plant grow, to know them more than scaping before introduce them to the scaping tank.

My cultivating tank is 3.5ftX2X16" and it's still too small. LOL.
I have in my garden emersed plants...

Anyway can't wait to see your new scape.

I wish i had a garden like yours, but in Singapore everything is too costly to own. Good to have your own gardens with emersed plants...
Since like alot of people asking to see my new tank setup... ... Still in the process of cycling and cultivating. So far no algae issues at all, anyway i can live with it. The tank looking good, loves the optiwhite tank. Had quite abit of DIY stuff, like using fish wire leads line hanging my light and so on, each wire can hold 25kg. Like the title "The rising sun", the sun still in sunset... So cant show at the moment...
