Wow, I would gladly pay for a Sakura of this quality.. heh. How long will this Malayan maintain this shade of red?
Wow Bro Adrian !!!
I got this feeling some of my Malayans in my 1ft cube are also this red !!!
I have both Malayan and Sakura inside my 1ft cube. I think I threw in about 10 Malayan... now i usually only see 1 brown and 1 almost black Malayan during feeding time... the rest are like super red shrimps. But i noticed some of the super red shrimp have a brownish red thick centre line going down the full length of their upper back... is this a Malayan shrimp? I noticed some of my red shrimps don't have this... are this the Sakuras?
Interesting... Could this be some form of natural defence mechanism of changing colour to blend into the majority shrimp group?
One day must do more experiments.![]()
wow nice setup and also easilly maintance.
Is being quite awhile already, still red all the while.
I also have few that is full brownish and almost black one. Those with white stripe at the back sure is Malayan shrimp.
Dont think is self defense color, as i keep solely only Malayan shrimp on this tank.
Thanks for the compliment.![]()

The picture is of sakura shrimp. They seem to be pretty popular for some kinds of sushi and salads. I don't think I'll ever be able to pay high prices after seeing so many pictures of them being sold by the plate. I couldn't find any of your Malayan shrimp; seems they're off the menu![]()
first time I heard people eating sakura shrimps![]()
Gosh! From special shrimps to special tidbits! This thread is getting more and more exciting!

I remembered seeing something about sakura shrimps being a delicacy in taiwan in a taiwanese tourism promotion website. What I saw was a stir-fried sakura dish... wonder how much does one plate cost. If its affordable... it really makes u wonder if what we're paying for sakura shrimps are worth it at all ~![]()

alive ones cost more then dead ones..
looks like we are drifting further and further away!!
Adrian , should show some pictures to get us back into the right track..![]()
It all depends where you are. Natives in south america eat discus. In some parts of Asia, loach soup is popular. Over in the rift lakes of africa, the larger cichlids get eaten. I've seen various freshwater sunfish kept in aquariums, but I've also had them for dinner.
Maybe we need a, "People eating our pets" picture thread or something
