Just had to share this with everyone.

I actually went to Y618 to check out canister filters for my tank and ended up with snowball shrimps.

Couldn't resist... They looked so pretty in the tank i just had to get them...

Also after i acclimatised them and added them to my tank i found out that i had 6 shrimps instead of 5 as stated on the bag they came in!!

Hope all goes well with them.

snowballs are very nice shrimp, and its very easy for them to breed. as long as the water is ok they should breed. in my experience they are quite hardy. and if you think snowballs are nice, check out yellow shrimps. Y618 carry them too, they may look normal in the packaging but when they are swimming in your tank. Wonderful!

I agree, the yellow color more strong when they are acclimatised to the tank than in plastic bag. The downside is, they tend to be more expensive. Hardiness is still snowball and green shrimp, yellow shrimp look "soft" when they swam round.

Can yellow and snowballs be put together or will they inter breed?

whether or not they will breed must ask the pros.

i believe their requirements fall within the same parameters as so far i got no problem keeping them. Y618 sells yellow shrimp, price wise if you can afford c grade crs then sure affordable for you. the quantity they bring in still quite little.

C grade CRS is only half the price of yellow shrimp.

If your tank has matured and fully set-up, shifting house becomes a challenge. Why not shift house first than think of setting up shrimp tank.

Yellow, snowball and cherry/sakura shrimps all will interbreed as they are different colour variations of the same species. Check out this link:

For me, I use 2 x 1ft cube tanks to keep the different colours.

schizome -- have you seen the off spring resulting from interbreeding? does it result in undesirable color changes or something?

go check out Y618 first for yellow, qty of 5 for how much. unless you are comparing buying c grade crs in bulk which the price certainly slash half. but if you are talking about yellow ones from crs haven then its another thing already. although the price is high, but i can say their yellows are really awesome. pmed you the details.

Haven't tried it myself but if I'm not wrong they come out colourless or have very dull colours.

ah i see i see. hmmm, what are the chances of them interbreeding anyway? say in a tank of a few breeds.

I would suppose the same chances as if only the same colours were in a tank. Take the analogy of the human race. Same species, different colours, and assuming we are not highly complex creatures. Apply the same concept to the shrimps. They are the same species, just different colour variations so I personally do not think the breeding would be skewed to any colour.

Pros please correct me if I'm wrong! I'm answering this based on theory.
