hi! you guys really insprires me on the wonderful setup without the use of CO2. why do some LFS says that its very difficult to setup a planted tank without CO2? but what i see here from the post is different.![]()
This is my low tech tank, its been set up for about 8 months or so now, but have yet to be fully set up , still missing out on a few plants, but i wanna add them real slowly .
Hey Hilde,
It's a 1ft cube, thrown together from leftover plants, wood and ADA Amazonia. The light is a small LED lightset that I bought from my LFS, not sure of the wattage. I dose probably 2 squirts of ADA Step 2 weekly with water top ups. A few months later I'd probably start dosing according to Tom Barr's Non-CO2 guidelines.
Sir, you mentioned only weekly water top ups,...wont the ADA Amazonia leak NH4 during the initial setup phase and cause algae to grow without regular water changes.
The joy of learning overwhelms me.
I never had a problem with algae growth when I first set the tank up. Main thing to note is to plant heavily. My tank has had that amount of plants since day 1.
My 2ft tank with no CO2. Daily excel dosing (if i can remember)

There are 3 rows of LEDs. One white row, one blue row, one white row. The blue row is supposedly a night light function.
I've only had them for two weeks. The tank is about 3.5 weeks old. Before that the plants were in a container standing at the balcony receiving sunlight everyday, so I can't say for sure if it's sufficient. But visually it looks sufficient for a non-CO2 tank.
t tsen What a nice simple tank. Love the wood and rocks. Is the wood local too?
thanks barmby and hilde for your comments ....yes, all local stuff except the substrate was bought. oh, the hairgrass is japanese....![]()
I've upgrade my invertebrates tank from 1 gallon (previous post) to 1 feet tank (31x19x26cm). Will be Sakura shrimps and ramshorn snails tank by next week.
