Many of us have had that experience before when buying things at new places. However, as others have said, rental costs usually are factored in when they sell their goods, be it live fish/shrimp/crays etc. or equipment and fish food.

As for that LFS in PS, people who know better usually do not buy from such places. Since their target group of customers are a niche group, most people on a budget will not even bother to frequent their store.

I've seen how their livestock are treated, and high prices mentioned, but some stores are doing the same. We shouldn't just single out this store for mistreatment of their livestock, when some other LFS that we usually frequent, are also guilty of this.

Ok rich and pretty gullible maybe. Then again some people just buy on impulse.

but one thing i got from the PS shop is at least some starter knowledge about starting and maintaining a fish tank. The guy in the shop spent close to an hour giving tips and explaining to me how to take care of a fish tank. So I take it as price to pay for a lecture.

    Ski,

Do you feel the information he gave you is good? Some of us find that some shops still give bad or old information when it comes to aquarium and fish care.

Good information also depends on the person, not so much the shop per se. Some of these shops hire part-timers who may not be knowledgeable.... so it really depends on your luck too.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Well, i am a newbie in this area so not sure if information good or not...they include some of the following:

    - 20% water change and the frequency (around every 2 weeks)
    - dont stir the gravel too much when you change water
    - Clean filter (sponge) in the bucket with used aquarium water instead under water tap
    - clean the pump propeller regularly to avoid slug clog up
    - dont overfeed my goldfish

Vinz, you are right about the person and off course the shop too play a part. I spent close to 1 hour talking to Victor at Biotope 2 days ago,and learnt a lots of experience talk from him. Too bad my light at my current tank is the restricting factor.

ski, is your tank a planted tank or just a naked tank?
For my lightly planted low-tech tank, I do a 20% every 2 week, and about 40% once a while. The main thing is to keep as much beneficial bacteria in the filter material as possible.
For the goldfish, take note that they don't have a stomach so do not overfeed or they will

To be fair, that shop is not only affected by high rental cost but also subjected to PS rules and regulation on how they can setup their displays, what kinda tanks, shop layouts and designs etc etc...

The mall is under Capitaland and I know how strict they are about having a unified "theme" for their malls. So in trying to keep within these rules and still display enough "goods", the treatment of the livestocks may have to be compromised somewhat.

Even so, I've seen alot worse treatment of livestocks at neighbourhood LFS and esp those LFS found in tiny crammed shops inside wet markets.

Bro, that is very correct. Its target audience is the richer public.

As with all large shopping malls, the following still is in place.
    1. Higher price but convenient location (E.G. right in the heartland)
    2. All in one (Where will you find fast food/GUARDIAN/ect near a LFS?)
2a. In action to that, good place to let your sons/daughters go Toys R Us
    3. Air-conditioned shopping (I would really love to see C328 have that )

About ill treatment, its not up to us to comment (in fourm) as the rules have said.

ski, you have come to the right place. use the search function before you post anything. I am sure someone may have asked that in the past.
Navanod bro, there's alot of open koi ponds that's equally bad. But "themes" and rules constrain the people who take care of the place.
