Thx bro! my set up as below:
Tank: Juwel Rio125 Cabinet Tank
Light: 2x 55W PL + fan
CO2: 2-3bps
Soil: ADA Amazonia
Dosing: EI with LGA, LGM, KH2PO4.
WC: 20~50% weekly/biweekly...
Flora: Blyxa Japonica, elatine triandra, red tiger lotus, spiky moss, US fissiden, nana petite, some unknown plants...
Fauna: AA, Bulldog, Cardinal tetra, diy guppy.
Thx bro, they are the survivors from last year batch... very high casualty...
using pl light good? I thought they produce alot of heat and not very good for planted.
still learning the hard way!!
High casualty in this set up ?
I my self using PL for my 2 ft tank. No problem growing plants. As far as heat concern, I doubt it is much of the different, PL and T8/T5/T5HO based on the same technology. Furthermore, I can easily get OSRAM or Philllips tube replacement from any DIY shop or neighborhood hardware shop. Much easier than to get T5HO tube, only fish shop or those big lighting shop sell those.
6.5K is common for PL, 8K never seen before except ADA tube. They normally code it as 865. You probably can also get 7K daylight
Very nice tank & fish.![]()
Andy: Many will advise getting higher is of no practical use. the money is not worthwhile as cost more and the plant cannot fully utilize it.
Chong: love the way your japonica are placed. but i "almost" missed the discus due to AAs being so pretty![]()

Not sure about 9w or 11w, but you can certainly get 24w, 36w and 55w
Lovely tank..beautiful fishes. Well done!
Thx all for your kind comments. Will update again in 2 weeks time.
As for the light, i think PL is good enough for tank height ~1.5ft. You might need T5 or even MH for =>2ft height tank.
And all lights generate heat, you can use a fan/chiller or place it higher away from water surface but this will affect the light penetration to reach the bottom. Hope this help...
no, never see they attack the tetras. only the big bulldog bully the smaller one...
i have a question on my nana petite. Why it grow vertical iso horizontally? Is it normal? The leaves are quite dense though, no sign of chasing light... Anyone can help?
