Ya....I'm also wondering why do you need so many Assassin Snails for???

Don't be surprise to them attacking and sucking your shrimp dry when your shrimp is weak during moulting.

Maybe you should add on Ram shore snails instead.

To me..the worst part is laying the layout design of the tank.
You will keep changing changing changing the layout...

Make chut chut? Shrimp make chincalok?

Anyway, jokes aside. Felix giving you good advice. Lower the number of fauna. Your filter, rethink again. Its too small for your three feet.

Xiaofeng, really too much bioload..it will be a chore to maintain water quality and possibilty of killing the livestocks are high...

You may end up with a LFS tank as though you are selling fish...not aquascaping.

30 assassin snail is really a lot,i have only 1 piece in my tank and it clear all my snails within 1 month... Mine is not heavily infested, but just keep it for fun though.

For a newly set up tank, you may not even need one if you quarantine stuffs properly

You can keep 100 shirmps if you really keen, but not for fish as fish create more waste than shrimps.

Upsize filter if possible,or add additional powerhead filter for better water circulation.

The thing is 2213 I'm only using for 2 feet with less then 10 tiny boreas and 100 cherries. (which I have no clue how many died )

Believe some have to follow my signature to learn

Aside from that, doubt he will dump everything in at one go as per he stated in an earlier post.

But still, most folks will rather go for 2215/2217. Else can get cheaper brands, I am only using a used atman cf1200 for my 3 feet.

The assassin are for snail control? I use a snail remover from Oceanfree on my plants before planting. I have a 6 week tank, so far I have not seen any snails at all or maybe my cardinals ate them.

    Re: My Upcoming 3ft Journal

Thanks everyone for all the comment and advise.

I will currently focus on my shrimp tank first will drop my 1st tier project currently after i finish my shrimp setup first .
Have change my canister filter to atman df 1000 which is 1500 h/l .
Will upload photo when i am free (:
As for assassin snail why i say 30 as my pest snail reproduce faster than they eat with my current 2ft tank 7-8 adult clearing my pest snail i still see a lot of pest snail but my assassin snail had lay 3 batches of egg not sure will they hatch or not

    Re: My Upcoming 3ft Journal

DF-1000 looks good for the tank. if feel too much can slow it down with those valves.

Very soon, 30 assassin snail wil be very hungry snails. If no pouch snails or ramhorns to eat they will all jump to action at the next easier prey... for your case it might be shrimps.

Your current 2 feet 7-8 adult, more then enough. don't need to have the mindset of them clearing ALL overnight. 10% of the current population of snails per 2 days is more then enough. Any faster they will run out of food too fast.
I recall one of my old tanks having a serious infestation of pouch snails, i went NA to buy 4 of them.

Within 2 months i had a new problem, i see tons of dead snail shells and everyday it just seems to increase... also saw a few tiny assassin snails too And i had zero snails left in that tank.

Thanks felix for the advise ,
yes the df-1000 flowrate seem to be kind of strong as i know shrimp don't like strong current right ? correct me if i am wrong any idea how much does one valves cost ?
Hmm my assassin snail now lay their egg like free one my tank is full of their egg but also a lot pest snail egg on my tank/soil/plant , they seem to be fighting who reproduce faster lol
Everyday i keep seeing more and more baby pest snail pop out any idea what is the chance of assassin egg to hatch ?

Agreed. I think that's what had happened to my shrimp population. I had a boom in assassin population after they had cleared out the ramshorns. Pouches of assassin egg everywhere. After they hatched in, I think, 3-4 weeks, my shrimps decreased.

I'm not into really into fancy snails, therefore, can't really help you in this area. Need the experts to advise.

From my limited knowledge, For snails that won't breed easily, you can choose one of its gender only, like assassin snail and nerite snails (both types need a male and female to breed so the more the quantity you get the higher chances of breeding), or one that only breed in brackish water ie nerite snails. Both do have it pros and cons to have them in the tank.

    Re: My Upcoming 3ft Journal

In my opinion, if you like snails, then get ready for a big disappointment when they increase their population until there are more snails in your tank than the fishes we have in the reservoir. It takes about 6 mths, and your love for snails will fall. That's my experience.

I totally cleared my 4ft tank of all the soil cos the snails live on the glass, the plants, on the gravel, in the gravel, under the gravel, everywhere... It kept my granny busy the whole day picking snails using the tweezer.

I have 2 tanks at home, with totally no snails, even when I got new plants from snail infested LFSs, I managed to remove all snail traces. These are what I did:

    1. Remove all visible snails from the plants (you won't be able to exactly see their eggs)
    2. Soak them in Snail Remover (I used double the dosage)
    3. Pour kitchen salt in & mix well (I used a huge scoop of my soup spoon)
    4. Soak for 20mins.

After which, any remaining snails that I didn't notice beforehand will detach themselves from the plants and they look totally dead. Rinse with clean water, and go ahead and plant with ease.

Assassin snails breeds slow, the egg may still remain after it is hatched for some time.

If your looking a algae eating snail that do not breed, can try nerites (zebra and horned).
Their both able to live in freshwater but not breed in freshwater.
Having said breed, they lay eggs everywhere when they can't hatch'

    Well, nothing's perfect
