Back to my setup after busy weeks. Planning to buy substrate tomorrow. Do I need to use powersand and aquasoil amazonia? or can i just use aquasoil amazonia? ADA powersand is really expensive. And do I need to use substrate additives?

Saw a packet set: Do i need all? For low tech with excel

    ADA Power Sand S
    ADA Aquasoil New Amazonia
    Bacter 100

    Tourmaline BC

    Clear Super

If you are running a low tech setup without Co2 injection, and with mostly slower growing above substrate plants, then its not really necessary to use all those additives... though there is no harm to add them if you have the budget.

Do note that if you use powersand with aquasoil, both will tend to mix together over time (some powersand may also pop up on top of the substrate during planting work, so need to push it back down), and in the future you wouldn't be able to separate them and re-use the aquasoil on its own again.

Just finish setup since 3 pm. Filling water was the longest, and i made a mistake. Setup canister wrongly, it floods my floor, need 4 towel to make it dry. zzzzz.
Water still very cloudy, only sword plant and dwarf grass at the moment. Hope the water will be clear in days time.

Do i need to do water change every day for now?

If you have a filter with a high flow rate and good circulation, the cloudiness will usually disappear within a few hours... if the filter isn't as strong, then it might take a few days to clear.

Its not necessarily to do water changes every day, but at least a regular weekly water change is recommended.

Most people who do frequent water changes during the first few weeks when using new ADA aquasoil are usually because their plant density are low at the start and they want to flush out the excess nutrients that their plants can't consume quick enough, so that it maintains tank stability and helps to prevent algae taking over.

Need a fair bit of effort to keep up with those frequent water changes though.

Some white fungus developing on my driftwood, read some article and said it will go away eventually. Should I need to do some action?

You can try getting from N30. They do have stock sometimes. I got mine with my tank.

Hi mylica, I think u need to do major water changes ~50% every 2-3 days. Ammonia release for aquasoil is quite high at the beginning phase.

Close to 4 weeks, my Ammonia reading is 0.5 ppm now. Seems i can put fish soon. I noticed i have one very tiny snail. Should i remove it? or let it b? Probably from the plants that i bought 4 weeks ago
