Apistogramma cacatuoides "Triple Red"

Actually the males do.
My A.bitaeniata male was fending off trespassers when they encroach into the space of the female and fries.

Yesterday also saw the male picking up the fries and bringing it to safety when one of the fries wandered away too far from the female.

Wow! thats wonderful....my past males ate up fries which made me scared of history repeating itself again for this pair.....thank god I'm able to keep both parents with the fries without having to separate which takes up more tank space.....

how old are your fries now?

My fries about 2 weeks. I think. Now left with about 7 like that.
Alot of interesting behaviours observed when both parents and other fishes around.

Wow!! thats roughly the same age as my fries too!! happy to hear that your fish has bred for you!!

Awaiting the arrival of my 5th batch of free-swimming fries within the next 2 days!! Wonder how many will there be this round

Isn't it good news to have the 5th batch? Then will the worried face? Too much to handle is it?

yea, there's a lot of fries to handle and i have got not enough tank space....good that the bbs hatchery has been coming in handy... I guess the 5th batch of fries will be a good CNY gift

Same situation over here. Guess you've seen my setup before. Fries would still be able to swim through the netting. Got no more tank space to accomodate fries. So hoping that few will survive.

You know, i was wondering if anyone would be interested in buying fries? cause to grow up to juvenile stage will have to wait like 4 months.

Haha....thats always a problem we face. Especially when the batches of fries gets bigger. The 1st batch would definately eat up your 5th batch if you put them together. Trying to squeeze out space to house as much fries as possible. Even so, we get limited sometime later.

my 5th batch of fries are finally free-swimming today!! the previous batch of fries which are in the same tank are scattered all over now....hard to target feed...

female is about 8 months old....no idea about the male

both seems to pair up nicely, no serious aggression....

oh no...it seems that the female has laid eggs in her usual cave this morning!!

The fries are with the male while the female is busy guarding her cave.....thats less than a week since the last batch of fries turned free swimming on lunar new year's day!!!

I'll probably need to do something about the large amount of fries I have now!!

You can leave it to nature (parents may end up killing the old batch), give away the excess fries, or cull some of them to reduce the number of fries you can hold.

Thanks eugene, now i'm leaving it in the hands of nature...the male is herding the fries while the female is guarding her eggs...lets see what happens next
