ID: Aspidoras(?) at C328

Can anyone confirm if those were Aspidoras at C328, in the small plastic tanks on the right, towards the end? If they are, what Aspidoras are they?

Markings are very odd and have rather large dorsal fins. Don't look very natural, more like hybrids. Can't find anything similar that I can compare with.

Hmm... don't like the look of them...

If they have rather large dorsal fins, chances are that they might be juvenile Brochis splendens.

Would be best if you had a picture, even from a handphone. Otherwise, it's anybody's guess.

Benny, hey, you may be right. Hmm... interesting that the transformation from juvenile to adult is so drama...

Are juvenile Brochis normally seen often in the market? First time I have seen them, not that I have been around much anyway, bleah...

Yes. They are fairly common and would retail between S$1 to S$2.50 each.

There are local farms that breeds them for export and hence such an attractive price.

However, without a visual confirmation, it's still anybody's guess. I'll have a look and see if it's really Brochis splendens if I have a chance tomorrow.

Hmm.... I'm quite inclined to say that they are juvenile Brochis splendens. But then again, I have never seen them as fry, so I might be wrong.

Heard that 100 pieces have left C328 already. Wonder who else brought them? Maybe can keep us updated in a few months?

You are spot on benny, Brochis splendens they are.

There's an article on planet-catfish and the author is brian walsh. He bred them years ago, at one time the shops made a lot of money on these fish selling them as the sailfin cory. And like you said not many people have seen juvenile splendens.

Ok guys. Went to pick up a few since it's so near my place. And here is a happy snappy!

One more in mid water!

I have more pictures, showing that they are not in good health. Chances of survival should be quite low unless you are skillfull at raising fry. So those considering to get some please take note.

Aha... thanks for the confirmation. Wow, 100 pieces all gone?

Found an article on breeding by Don Kinyon on PCF.

Couldn't find anything by Brian Walsh on PCF, but found the article on www.scotcat.com. Good info with lots of illustrations at different stages, from juvenile to adult.
