    hi there,

I thought of getting a teco micro chiller for my 2ft planted tank, but need reviews or experiences pertaining to the chiller? And also what is the setting temp. range? Thanks alot.

    Cheers,

These peltier chiller can only cool your tank according to the ambient temperature of the room where the tank sit. Get a refrigerant chiller instead.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

It works IMHO - but only upto 1 ft tank size (to cool down to 27 deg C when ambient is 30 C).

I also tried it on my 2.5 ft but only lower by 1 deg.

I think using fan to blow the water surface can do better than this.

generally, refrigerant-based chillers have better cooling capacity. usually, a temperature of about 25-26 deg is set.

    Hi there,

Yeah thought that teco micro eliminating the refrigerant could save on the maintenance but since it could bring down the temp only by 1 degree , might as well use fan. What's ambient temp? It is the surrounding temp? Any recommendations to cool 2ft planted tank to about 24 degrees? Thanks alot.

Yes, I meant the surrounding temperature.

To lower to 24 deg I think you need chiller - but need to watch out for water condensation if the surrounding is hot (say 30 deg) and humic. Or you might as well air con the whole room.

BTW may I know why you need to lower to 24 deg ?
I think most people's experience from 30 deg lower to 27~28 deg can already give good growth.

    Hi there,

Cause my moss is turning brown and breeding CRS. Water temp is around 26 degrees. Cooling by fan. Can elaborate more on water condensation? Cause new to chiller. Thanks alot.

    26 deg should be ok.
    is your thermometer accurate?
how frequent do you have to top up your tank water? for your 2 ft, you should be topping up by 1-2 litres/day since you have a fan.

as for condensation, think of a glass of cold water. condensation will form on your tank when tank water is cooler than ambient temperature.

Have a look at the TECO TR-10. I am using one for my 2 footer with the temperature set at 24.5, it only takes about 8-10 minutes to reduce the tank temperature from 25 to 24C. Plus it has adjustable taps so you can control the water flow.

should be right check with several thermometer brand. I topped up every 3 days. Evaporation rate not drastic. If not condensation does not occur at 26 degrees does it mean that my ambient temp. is around 26? Thanks alot.

    Hi Wilson

I own two chillers, one TECO TR-10 and a Articia. The Aritica 1/5 hp has 2 year warranty + annual servicing built into the purchase price. The TECO [bought in HK] was half the price of the Articia but twice the price of an equivalent Haileia and 23% cheaper than buying in Singapore. I will PM you the price.

Since I purchased mine in Hong Kong I will need to return it there for warranty servicing, but was told by a dependable retailer that they are reliable. That said annual cleaning [servicing] is probably is just the removing the chiller from the tank setup and backflushing it, which is more effort than anything else.
