I am having problem with the snails, they are all over the tank, plants, walls, glass.
Please suggest what are the ways to destroy, kill, and murder all the ugly snails.
Sorry for the emotional post, but they are destroying my desing and there is no end to them.

    P.S.
I am posting this to Aquascaping, because snails affect the design of the tank.

    Hi Sergio,

Excess feeding cause out-break of snail population, so control your amount on feedings, puffers will eat snails but will nip fish tails also. I suggest to removal by hand and siphon off as much as you can. They normally appears after lights off, so what I do is about an hour after lights off at night, I switch them on again and with a bucket and tube, I siphon all the smaller ones and hand remove the bigger fellas. Do this a few times and you'll see the population dwindle.

These look like Malayan Trumpets... Manual removal after lights off might be a beter option as alot of puffer owners say puffers tend to ignore them as their shells are too hard...

But I still think this should be in Invertabrates...

I noticed that my dwarf puffer don't exactly break the shells of the snails. But instead, hover above the snail and wait for the snail to crawl around and then do a swooping down nip at the head...

Then when the snail is on the ground belly up, do another attack into the shell... So I think the reason why puffers ignore MTS is because they seldom crawl on the glass in the day but burrow in the substrate...

Use the cucumber at night method.

Put a cut piece of cucumber into a bottle leave the cap open for the snails to crawl into the bottle. Sink it and leave it over night. The next morning, you will get a hoard of them in the bottle. Lift the bottle out and do as you deem fit

it looks like malayan trumpet snail. Sorry to tell u puffer and medication dun work on this snail. They multiply very fast and they can even survive inside the filter system. They lives inside yr gravel and moves only in the dark.Only choice is to tear down the whole tank.

I jus tear down my 3ft tank abt 1mth ago due to over infestation of the snail..

Got critters in your tank? No , then dose copper sulphate, all sure die
It's not just "Step1: Add Water, Step2: Add Fish" If everything else don't work, add plastic plants and fish

NO! Don't ever dose copper sulphate. It kills almost everything. Keep that away from your tank

Please note that whatever chemical that will kill your snails will kill any invertebrate, such as ornamental shrimps.

If you insist on using copper sulphate, please be careful on the amount used. You would not want to kill fish as well...

    Thanks a lot guys!
I just got puffer fish, let’s see what happens.
I like the idea with the bottle in the tank, will try that also.

Another question, what are the ways to disinfect the plants from the snails before planting them, any suggestions ?

Besides puffers, Amano actually recommends (in Aquajournal and his website)the dwarf African butterfly cichlid Anomalochromis Thomasi to rid snails. Anyone with any experience on these?

Will this really work? What's the rationale behind this idea?

Snails are more active at night. And they love cucumber (or any food, for that matter)... And placing it in the bottle makes their escape more difficult and thus ease your capturing of them...

Didn't work for me. Not even one snail went for the cucumber

I'll try tomorrow night. So all I need to have the bottle totally submerged into the bottom of the tank and I leave it upright correct?

Can consider having holes drilled on the sides of the bottle.

nkthen, if you have shrimps, they might end up inside the bottle feasting on the cucumber.

Or maybe I'll just put a cucumber by itself without the bottle? The next day I'll just remove the cucumber using a pincer. The shrimps will swim away faster than the snails right?

I tried the cucumber method. After the first night, caught 4 snails. Then after the second night, caught 12 snails. Used the same piece of cucumber, so the second night, the cucumber is already very soggy. By the morning of the third day, all the cucumber has already disintegrated.
