    Hi all,

I understand that there are a wide variety of fish food available in the market such as flakes, frozen food, live food (tubifex worms). I presume that live food (tubifex worm) will further enhance grwoth since are better in terms of nutrition aspect, they also have the ability to pollute water and known to carry disease. Is it true that frozen or dried version of tubifex or blood worm are complete safe from diseases? I just want to keep my fishes (cardinal tetras) healthy and a better growth rate. Can anyone please comments. Thanks

A lot of the freeze dried and frozen food are 'cleaner' in that they have been treated with UV. Live food may carry hitchhikers and causes disease outbreaks in your tank if not treated properly before feeding.

Even for dried food, some dirty the water easily and cause clouding. So do look around and pick the one best suited to your needs.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

i believed dried and frozen food are safe for the fishes, i'm currently feeding 3 different types of food to my community of tetras.
    1) flakes (tetra brand)
    2) Hikari Frozen daphnia
    2) dried worms

also tried frozen blood worms b4..

my fishes love all...and they are very healthy too...

What other brands of flakes does you guys use? I find that some brands, the flakes takes a long time to soften and the fishes spit it out after eating it

I would usually stick to Hikari, Sera or Tetra brands. Although they are more expensive, however I know they have put alot of effort in their R & D. For Hikari the QC is strict so for their frozen stuff, its worth the extra price.

Recently I started to add Formula 2 from Ocean Nutrition as a food source to my fishes. Wow! was the word. I have never seen my fishes love the flakes so much. Even my meat eating Congo likes it.. Oh well, something must have ticked. Perhaps it was the added Garlic or the added fresh seafood?? What in the world would fish needs garlic for... its a mystery to me. Anyway, this flake food isn't cheap. I would use it as bi weekly food source I suppose since I like chubby fishes :P

Try Azmi's artificial daphnia mix. I do a mix of his food with Ocean free XO super colour for my low maintenance tank. Works well.

Anyway, check carefully whether your fishes are eating the food you are providing. Fishes like dessneri prefer live food or frozen.

    Hi Eflyer,
You are right at both claims, just to add a little. I've a couple of tanks, a while back some of the fishes were fed entirely on live food and the others in another tank entirely on flakes food. Although both will promote healthy fish, the batch on live food always seems to be alittle more prettier but that tank of fish was wipe out in a week's time due to a out break. So you decide.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

I recommednd Hikari Brine Shrimp. The cardinal tetras look bright and lively after feeding them.
