Cherry shrimp is now Neocaridina heteropoda?

Been surfing around and found that some forums are starting to use Neocaridina heteropoda var. red for cherry shrimps, and Neocaridina denticulata sinensis var. red is now the synonym.

I have not seen any references or information regarding the changes. Anyone knows? Thanks.

Neocaridina denticulata sinensis was separated from N. denticulata by Liang in 2002 basing on a sexual dimorphism of the pereiopods. Liang named this "new species" N. heteropoda. So N. denticulata sinensis is a senior synonym of N. heteropoda. Regardless to any color variant.

But... now I am reading somewhere that there are several subspecies of N. heteropoda, so cherry shrimps could actually be N. heteropoda heteropoda var. "red". Hmmmm....

Shrimp taxonomy is a mess... no one agrees on anything (generally) and everyone trying to come up with new "system" (generally again)... good luck man..

and who is to say YOUR cherry shrimp is the same as THEIR cherry shrimp?
