i like the idea of UG because mine gores in a non co2 or fert tank and is fine, green and lush.
given that the tank doesnt get much light or ferts i would consider it as low maint.

Concidering the many complications with this plant its not for the faint hearted. A few people on this forum have tried it recently with mixed results. It would certainly be an attractive plant to use, just questioning the care required to get positive results.
Cryptocornye parva is a painfully slow grower. I swear mine looks the same in my tank now as it did exactly 3 years ago. Possible 1 new leaf every couple of months i seem to get.
E. tenellus is a great candidate. If you can keep it healthy which isnt that difficult it'll reward you with a decent lawn.

interesting, I failed this plant in high tech tank and both of you successfull in low tech tank. does it mean this plant don't like high light, CO2 and fert?![]()
I copied these posts out from another thread as it I thought it'll make an interesting discussion about the requirements of plants. Often we think that certain plants will only grow well in high tech tanks because of prevalent opinions or we only see them in high tech tanks. Or because they are notorious difficult to grow in high tech tanks.
Then we toss them in some god forsaken tank and find them flourishing. Or we find out some guy grows them easily in low tech tanks.![]()
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
my friend have succesfull plant UG in nano aquarium (20 ltr)with low tech too (no CO2 and fert, low light ).Very beautiful carpet..... i will ask him to show the picture....

Any Singaporean successful with UG? would it be because Singapore water too soft?
Hideki fertilizer dosing (taken from Aquascaping World forum): flourish, flourish iron, flourish potassium, flourish excel. Not much N and P
I've grown ug in a high tech tank as well, it did fine too
pressure co2 , EI dosing ect..
like the other Aussie said, it does grow quite slow without ferts.
Mine is also growing in a CRS tank that gets maybe 2-3 hrs of light a day.
I feel that ug is a hardy plant that can adapt to a lot of environments. For me, it takes awhile for ug to settle in, but once it has it does very well.
I'm getting itchy feet to try this plant now after reading about it. I might concider it as a foreground plant for my 2ft IwagumiWould make an interesting mass carpet if it grows successfully.
