    Setting up outdoor tank

This is my first try on outdoor tank. Currently running a 3ft tank outdoors with no filter and pump.
    Just simple plants and fishes.
Noticed a lot of bubbling recently.
Is it the photosynthesis going on in the tank?
Or escaping of trapped bubbles in the substrate?
Cause a massive algae outbreak just cleared. That explains the brown leaves in my tank and the chunks of algae in the tank base.
I'm just using normal gravel no soil.

Yeah, i've found that plants will photosynthesize and pearl very actively in outdoor setups... sunlight has way higher intensity than even our strongest aquarium lights.

So far i have only kept an outdoor tub water garden which was heavily planted and only exposed to partial sunlight from the top, which probably helped to minimize algae issues and keep the water temperature moderate.

I guess you'll have to see how your tank works out as it gets sunlight shining through on all sides, which might increase heat (especially these days with the crazy hot weather) and may favor algae growth.

Running an airstone to create surface agitation would be a good idea to help oxygenate the water and create abit of additional circulation in the tank.

True I use a black shade net when the sunlight gets too harsh at times.. I can't run a pump cause there's no power supply as it's at yhe corridor haha!

A tub is the best way to counter algae outbreak but neighbours might use it against me for mosquito breeding cause I can't see inside from the sides haha. That's why I chose a glass tank.

This may help you, stick it on the side walls...
Cable quite long can place it where got direct sunlight.
If your a fan of DIY, you can rig it to a battery operated airpump also.

Keep some malayan/cherry shrimps, natural source of food for the fish inside... plus they clear up algae..

I do have some small scale setup outside the house, you can have a look at my blog for photos or the thread i've created for it.
Their not really updated thou, recently work and family took all my time.

Yeah, a solar pump would be great for your setup... if you find that the sunlight is strong enough that you need to shade the tank, then it'll be strong enough to run the solar pump at full power, and it can create a nice amount of flow.

You can buy the fountain spray heads from LFS and attach on the pump to create surface agitation, or even make a DIY filter by putting the pump with bio-media inside a plastic/mesh box with holes.

You can order them from online stores... i ordered mine from eBay, there are lots of sellers of these solar pumps (mostly from china). The one i got is a 180 l/ph model, which i think is one of the smallest versions available, cost worked out to just around SGD$14+ (including postage).

You can check out how i hooked it up in my outdoor water garden thread: http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...r-Balcony-Pond

Due to the placement of my water garden, i couldn't position the solar panel in strong enough sunlight so the flow was very low, otherwise it would create a more powerful and constant fountain spray.

That's very beneficial information for me! Will check it out soon! Thanks so much!

And when there is not enough sunlight..... The pump sounds amusing

Just need to place the panel where sunlight stays longest at & take note how long it stays strongest on average.
