I'm thinking of getting a nano tank, maybe the fluval spec 10L. I don't want too many plants because I'm pretty clueless on how to look after them. I would like the tank to have some nice rocks, and maybe just 1 or 2 small easy-to-care-for plants. Any suggestions on how to set up one?
I presume you are going low tech? So far from what i read in the forum, alot of senior bros recommend moss like java moss. You can tie it to the rock, driftwood or steel mesh.
carpet plant usually is monte carlo for low tech tank.
personally i recommend java moss, my monte carlo dies during my first time planting,my xmas moss not growing well due to my temperature hovering around 28 degrees. only java moss is surviving quite well
Ah I see. What about substrate? I want the java moss to look like a carpet.
I'm not too sure about substrate. I'm using some Japanese brand shrimp soil that I got from Seaview. From what I understand,for java Moss to grow like carpet,you can tie it to steel mesh for it to grow out. I could be wrong here as I didn't grow my java Moss to be carpet. Maybe senior Bros can enlighten both of us on this matter
Yeah, if left alone and floating, java moss will tend to grow in stringy random patterns, eventually it'll just become a messy clump of moss.

It'll be best to tie them to mesh (which will help weight them down) so that they can grow in a more orderly fashion. Do note that even when weighted down, java moss generally still has a messy growth pattern so you'll have to trim and shape it regularly to maintain a neater crop of moss.
