    need some help here..
need you guys here to help me recommand me some fishes to keep in a 1ft moss tank.
some fishes are that are out of option:
rasboras, D.dario, B.badis, Tetras and boraras
would like to keep those in pairs..size wise maybe 2 - 5cm quite bored with small fishes
quite interested in german rams sold as pair in C328.. but got no idea how to take care of them. do recommand me fishes that wont eat my Moss and can live happily in a 1ft cube tank with a hang on filter..
best is fishes that eat Frozen Bloodworm..
    thanks

try apistos =) i had the exact same thought as you 2 weeks ago, wanting to keep german rams...but thanks to some bros here i decided on apistos instead and i don't regret it one bit! after keeping them for 2 weeks and watching their behaviour, i find rams boring in comparison!

edit: if you're really set on rams, it's cheaper to buy a pair from LFS that you sex yourself...like 10% of the price last i checked...the pair at C328 have been there for quite some time, and they don't look too good

hi bro.. heard that apistos are kepts in acidic water.. dunno if my moss can take it anot.. and apistios in 1ft cube.. are the size too small for them?
btw.. on rams how do we buy a pair and sex ourself?
the few pairs i saw in C328 are not bad looking too..
how abt those caca or similar name fish? also selling in pairs

cacas are the apistos i'm keeping now =)

i have taiwan moss and nanas in my tank, and they're thriving in my 4.5 ph water so i don't think you need to worry about yours...i think 1ft cube should be ok la...the faq in cichlid forums found here recommends 14x11x9 inch tank, which is almost the same as a 12x12x12 1ft cube

there's a thread that i started asking whether to keep rams or apistos in the cichlid forums that gave tips on how to sex rams...you can find it here... maybe reading through that thread can give you insight into what you'd prefer to keep?

hope this is helpful and you'll decide on a pair of cichlids to keep soon. just passing on some tips that were given me by other bros on the forum, try getting pairs of cichlids from biotope or ecoculture as the quality of fish is supposed to be better than c328. conditions that the fish are kept in are also better and there tend to be more to choose from. the downside is that the fish might be slightly pricier than c328, but a few dollars more for better quality is worth it especially if you're keeping them for the first time.

my pair of cacas brings much entertainment and joy =)

Thanks alot bro for the explanation and links
now holiday started already.. will travel to biotop or ecoculture and have a look.. will read up before i decide on german rams or cacas... as a student, no budget to get a pair of apisto. Not sure if i have enough money to get a pair of rams too
But really thanks a lot =)

if you can sex your own rams, and provided stock comes in (i find non-balloon rams harder and harder to come by), you can get a pair for less than a small green note...that's really low budget =)

biotope has pretty good pricing on farm-bred non german grade apistos (such as cacas and trifasciatas) as well as wild aggasiziis...you might be interested in those, they cost only very slightly more than what C328 charges for german ram pairs, so if you're willing to pay for those, you can afford those apistos =) they also carry better looking german ram pairs for the same price

LFS that i have seen carry non-german grade, very cheap rams (those that you sex yourself for a pair) include ecoculture (they were out of females when i called 2 weeks back), biotope (a few pieces left when i went down 2 weeks back) and polyart (currently out of stock but they do have batches come in every now and then). these would be the ultimate budget saver, but quality wise not as good as the above mentioned from biotope, which i still highly recommend keke

i might be going down to biotope tomorrow afternoon just to browse...thinking of what my next pair should be when i start up my apisto 1ft cube in July/August, so i probably will go look and see what catches my eye...abit premature i know, but i agonize of decisions alot as some bros here would have realised by now from my posts...so to avoid being wishy washy when the time comes, just go look early so got lots of time to decide =)

haha i understand =) technically i'm still a student now too (starting my pupillage on friday) and i do have quite a tight budget as well. all the best in deciding what to put into your new tank, i'm sure a small school of rasboras would look very nice as well haha

acctually im currently having a mixture of rasbora in there.. but they are not schooling due to mixing them.. so kinda boring seeing them swimming their own way..
anyway.. just some questions on Cacas
    1) can they survive well and breed in temp of 26 - 27C?
    2) can they eat Frozen bloodworm everyday?
    3) do they like bright light? or they are like rams?
    thanks

I'm sure other more pro bros here on the forums will be able to answer those questions better =) but based on my limited knowledge, i think the temp shouldn't be a problem nor the light (as long as you add some hiding spots for them...check out my thread for a good and very cheap cave alternative)...but food wise it might be better if you fed them dried food regularly (i use tetrabits complete, but most dried foods should work well) and bloodworms as a treat sparingly
