Thanks for sharing, are the baby otos active in the breeding tank? Wonder do they need any special care?

As promised, here ya go! My least expected member to my CRS tank. Hope they survive. Total 9 Oto babies.
Pic shows the underside of the Oto (it was sticking onto the glass on it's belly). Lines you see below is caused by bubbles of CO2, using a slow shutter so as not to alarm 'The Pregnant One'. And also traces of algae growth![]()

The Happiest of people don't neccessary have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way
When will there be 25 letters in the alphabets?
Congratulations! Any pictures of the parent Otocinclus?
Since it is primarily a shrimp tank, I suppose there are plenty of moss around? The fries reportedly have small mouths, so they may only be able to take infusoria or rotifiers. Having lots of moss and algae may be helpful towards their survival.
Keep us posted in their developments, with pictures if possible from time to time.![]()
soo cute.
How do you differentiate otos male and female?
congrats! any tips to share? looks really interesting!

Hi richietay, they are quite active and to be frank I'm a 'first time father' of Otos, so I do not know what to expect. I did not brush the algae off the glass since their birth and has been injecting spirulina into the tank every 2 days.
Hi Quixotic, will post a picture of their parents & their growth progress soon.
My shrimp tank as shown below (left). Been trying to carpet the floor with HC and the progress has been satisfactory thus far, changing them from emersed to submerse was both back breaking & patience testing. Has a piece of wood with spiky moss (trying to make it look like a tree) & some flame moss at the back (hope they grow tall & bushy).
Can I know where I can get infusoria or rotifiers as recommended? Is spirulina a suitable form of their diet for now?
Thanks for leading me on...
Hi Shadow, will take pic of the parents and then maybe some experts in AQ can help. Like I said, I'm a 'first time father' here.![]()
Infusoria could be found easily among the moss. If unsure, you can always just put in more clumps of moss temporarily until the fries grow up.
You can also grow your own infusoria or paramecium cultures. I am personally a failure when it comes to growing these cultures, but here is an article on how to grow your own fry food culture. Good luck.

how i'd do it for fries is to use pure spirulina powder mixed in tank water then injected near the fry using a syringe. that way you can be sure that the powder is definitely small enough for the fry and since it's pure spirulina it's the good quality stuff with no additives![]()
Oh...got mine in tablet form...need to dig out the mortar and pestle.
If I inject this spirulina solution to feed cichlids is it workable also? Or too small for adult fishes to eat?
Think getting out of topic here..![]()

Sorry folks, all the little ones are nowhere to be found. Searched the filter to no avail. It just didn't work out.
Such a shame. Better luck next time, if they have done it once, I am sure they will be at it in future.
