I have liberty HOF for my 2 feet planted tank. The outward water flow is always below the water surface, such that there will be minimum air bubble created from the rushing out water. And everyday i will top up the water to that level and the evaporation is not so much. But I always come across people saying that HOF will irriates the water surface and cause CO2 losses(I am using DIY CO2).. how bad can it be? Or is there anyway to counter this issue to prevent CO2 loss? I am in a dilemma of whether to change it to a canister because my liberty was only a month old and a good canister do come cheap...

i believe a ehiem liberty HOB filter is as expensive as cheap canister, will advice you to change to canister.

If everything is going well.why bother to change? I have $20 Atman HOB filters running my 2ft planted tanks and they do fine. Wait for the filter to breakdown then change or trade in for a canister, up to you.

everything seems fine now... If changing I prefer to get a good canister because the tank is placed in bedroom and noise is a primarily concern.

I am currently running a Eheim Liberty too. I find it extremely quiet which I really appreciate. You can also consider getting a reliable canister but a canister is more difficult to maintain (in my opinion) compared to a HOF. I wouldn't worry too much if your plants are growing well. If you do not like guessing games, then get a drop checker (CO2 tester).

    Jack,
You can actually check some of my previous works in DIY co2 with an internal nano reactor. With a powerhead churning up co2 gases and a course sponge on the outlet of the reactor, theres no bubbles as water is being force out.

No bubbles = no co2 loss. So it doesnt matter if its HOF or canister.

Since you mentioned fengshui, water position should only be 1x prosperity point, but you have 2 ?

Ya, i forgot to add, remember to get a longish reactor and add a burp hole in your diy reactor as inconsistent 5bps will fill up about 10 cm of your reactor with co2 air in 1 day, this was one of my headaches as the reactor breaks free from the suckers and started floating up on numerous occasion.

I have linked my diy reactor just in case you are looking for it.
